I did not attend middle school , I’m not sure exactly what ages go to that kind of school.
I attended Primary School aged 6-12 and Secondary (High) School from aged 13-17.
When I went there it was Theodore Roosevelt Junior High School (grade 7-9) but now it is Roosevelt Intermediate School (grade 7-8). It was built in 1926 and has been renovated several times but the original building still stands. My elementary school (William McKinley School) is even older and is largely original.
Your primary school maps approximately to our elementary school. And your secondary school combines what was junior & senior high school when i was a kid (age 13-15, and 16-18) or middle school and high school today (age 12-14, and 15-18).
All my schools are still standing with their original names except for the change from “Grammar” to “Elementary” and “Junior High” to “Middle School”. K-6 is named after the city, 6-7 is named after the district’s first superintendent, and the high school is named after a nearby body of water.
For non-US dopers, our grade system is generally Grade 1 = age 6-7 through Grade 12 = 17-18. When you start Kindergarten (age 5-6) depends on when your birthday is. I’m not sure what the cutoff is, but I started Kindergarten at 5 with a July birthdate. My classmates with December and January birthdays started at 6 (which means we graduated high school at 17 and 18 respectively).

I agree. I really enjoy the Polls threads, and the discussion, but I almost always refrain from voting in any polls that involve politics or the more tragic situations in the world.
You are only you. You are not the public. This is a big story in the entertainment world spilling over into politics. Just because you don’t know about it doesn’t mean it isn’t a well known story. Just because you don’t know who is involved doesn’t mean they aren’t famous. I’m sure wherever you get your news from is covering it and chances are you’ve heard of at least some of the people who are now involved.
My high school was named after geographical features, which is not exactly the name of the place.
Elementary school was named after a local person - no one knows anything about him, except his name.
Middle school was named after a Nobel Prize laureate.
FWIW it has never occurred to me that the polls thread should be for mostly light-hearted topics only.

My junior high is now a middle school. Was 7-9 not 6-8. It has the same name, other than “[town] Middle School” instead of “[town] Junior High.” Googling, I learn that my high school was replaced by a new building in 2017 It’s now 9-12. and slightly smaller population then we had in the boomer days.

My elementary school is still there. I had to Google it. It looks like it’s the same footprint, but it’s two stories now.

I went to multiple elementary schools and middle schools. As far as I know, all but one of them still exist in their original buildings.
In the U.S., this is made even more complicated by the fact that the terms for different school levels, and years/ages, aren’t universal: they can vary, at least, by state, and possibly by school district within a particular state. This is due to education largely being a state-level function in the U.S., with relatively few national rules.
“Grammar” and “primary” are older terms for what is usually (but maybe not always) termed “elementary” school. “Middle school” has largely (but not entirely) supplanted the older term “junior high.”
Where the breaks are, age/grade-wise, between elementary and middle school, and between middle and high school, can also vary, as can whether a district even has middle schools (with the jump going directly from elementary schools to high schools).
Kindergarten is close to universal for 5-year-olds, but the latest birth date for turning 5, and qualifying for kindergarten that year (versus having to wait a year) also can vary.
My parents moved into their house 8 or so years before I was born. 60 something years later when my mother died she was still living in the same house. The first time I moved was to join the Army.
We called it “grade school”. New York State, 1950’s.
My elementary school was called the “Lower School” — part of a private school that went from K through 12 (the other parts were “Middle School” and “Upper School”)…
…but if someone asked “what was your elementary school?,” or “what is your high school?,” you wouldn’t correct them — these were understood as general terms for those grade ranges.
I’m much more likely to transpose two numbers than to confuse one for another. And if i confuse one for another, it’s usually 5 and 6, for whatever reason. The other mistake i sometimes make is confusing 3 and 8.

I’ve had voice activated interfaces mishear me, though, and while i don’t remember the mistake, it was probably 5 and 9.
I’m a veteran, so I still say “niner” instead of “nine” when it’s important for people to distinguish the two. For instance there are 3 niners in my phone number and no fives.
