I went to high school but was really high the entire time and don’t remember the name of the school?
Ha, thanks for letting me know. It would have been more accurate for me to say that the third went up while my younger brother was in High School but that was 30 years ago and I hadn’t checked since.

Ironically, I’ll be back in Cruces next month to visit my folks and do tech support. And each time I visit it’s bigger. Though there are so many things I miss that are long gone (see 30 years).

Of the three schools I attended - elementary, junior high, and high - all three of them were named after U.S. presidents.

So you remember when Oñate High School was built? After George Floyd, the name was deemed politically incorrect, and they changed it to Organ Mountain High School.
That I had heard, my folks emailed me a link to the (at the time) controversy and then the eventual recognition and alteration.
For those non-locals, the Organ Mountains are beautiful, and visible to the east (the proper side) of Las Cruces.
No one tell my wife I said this again, as in Colorado Springs, Pike’s Peak and the Rockies are to the West, and I’ve now lived here longer than Cruces, but my feelings remain unchanged.
Oh, and if you’re ever in the area on vacation, make sure to visit Aguirre Springs amongst the mountains as well as White Sands, it was a school and family favorite to visit these many years ago. Hopefully, still is just as wonderful.

Yeah, that poll needed a third option- who the hell is Macklemore and why should i care about their opinion? Do they hold an elected office?
Because I still maintain that “I don’t care” options on polls are counterproductive and dumb, and because, as I said in my GD thread, I think public reaction to this incident encapsulates a lot of emotions and complexity in the Gaza issue in general.
I made that poll. It was just a catch-all to exist outside of “Something else” that was different from “Something else,” to cover edge cases like people who attended multiple high schools or some other circumstance that wouldn’t be accurately represented with any other answer.
I went to a Catholic high school that was named for the religious brotherhood who ran it. And the brotherhood was named for a particular saint. So I said the school was named for a person, but it’s arguable since the school name is one step removed from the person and the connection isn’t obvious just from the name.
I went back to the other thread to see who he is.
He’s a performer who was banned from performing in arenas owned by Kraft because of his views on the situation in Israel and Palestine. I started to compose a thoughtful reply for here (because none of the options in the poll felt appropriate to me) but than decided not to. The polls thread is mostly about light-hearted topics like whether you like mustard on your hotdog, and maybe it’s nice if it stays that way, and doesn’t become another venue to argue about the middle east.

Yeah, i think you’ve captured that a lot of Americans don’t follow the Gaza issue very closely and really aren’t following secondary controversies related to it, like this one. 
I attended three high school, but each was named for a person. The two public high schools for inventors, and the Catholic one for a Catholic. None of whom had anything to do with the place, and none of whom were ever mentioned except as the name of the school.
My high school was named after the town but it had buildings that were named after people. The vast majority of public high schools in my state are named geographically.
If there is another thread specifically about the subject I won’t go into further detail beyond saying that’s an oversimplification of the issue. As is alluded to in the poll question there are also some past issues that can lend more credence to antisemitism rather than just an anti-war stance or sympathy for the plight of Palestinians.

I’m not sure what the best place is to discuss him. Maybe the linked thread on the relationship between antisemitism and anti-zionism, or maybe one of the many pit threads on Gaza? If there’s a p&e thread about that specific issue, i haven’t noticed it.
Didn’t vote on the middle school poll. My middle school (junior high, actually) no longer exists but some of the buildings are still standing. Most of the classroom buildings are gone and replaced because they didn’t meet occupancy/earthquake standards, and the site was reborn as a magnet elementary school under a completely different name. The auditorium and gym facilities remain from when I attended, though.
My parents didn’t move while I was in school (or ever) so I only have one each of the three types of schools. All are the same as they were when I went there minus renovations. The high school is the only one that looks different because of renovations. The other two look exactly the same.
I disagree about the poll author’s definition of “in name only”. When my kids were in high school, the building was torn down and a new building was made as a high school on the same site. But the building isn’t the school. All the students and teachers remained the same during the transition (except for normal turnover, like kids graduating and new ones moving in) and there wasn’t even a ton of disruption in their schooling.
For that matter, my synagogue decided to replace the sprawling building that had lots of additions tacked into it. We built a new building in the parking lot, and had a celebration when we carried the Torah scrolls from the old building to the new building. Then we tore down the old building and built a new parking lot. It’s a new building, but it’s the same congregation, the same staff and clergy, the same Torah scrolls. The art around the old ark is still on display in the new building. It’s not just the same “in name only”.
I attended three different parochial elementary schools; all three still exist, in the same locations, though one has changed names and parochial denominations.
I did not attend a middle school/junior high, as my elementary school went to 8th grade, and my high school started at 9th grade.
My high school closed in the early 1990s (merged with two other Catholic high schools, under a new name, and the merged school is in a different location). The building itself was torn down three years ago, and a new business school for the Catholic college on which my high school’s building was on the campus of, was built in that location.
