Discussion thread for the "Polls only" thread (Part 3)

I know. I’ve been called that all my life. Also, Miss Manners is right. Also, if anyone ever has a meal with me in Europe and I order anything with the word “burger” in it, please just shoot me.

No need for the English menu from Burgermeister?

Really, it’s the good people of Hamburg who ought to settle the question.

Surprisingly, I’m the only poll respondent who quite frequently sees men with “hillbilly” beards grown down to chest level.

Apparently none of the rest of you live near a town on the border of eastern Kentucky and shop at the Rural King.

Typically I “shower” every other day and “rinse off” on the other days. When I “rinse off”, I don’t use soap or don’t use it thoroughly. I don’t wash my hair, or I might rinse it.

I know a couple of guys who grew that beard during the pandemic. All but one of them have trimmed it shorter since then, and i don’t see him often.

I don’t think my son ever shaves his beard, maybe he’s never shaved. But his beard isn’t nearly that long. My husband and i don’t cut the hair on our scalps, and ours maxes out at shoulder length. We just aren’t long-haired humans.

I usually wash my hair once a week, and tie it up and keep it dry when i want to shower without washing it. One advantage of the hand-held shower head i love is that it makes it easy to keep my hair (mostly) dry. I hate those overhead “rain” showers.

We have an overhead with a hand-held attachment. The hand-held is definitely easier. Also useful when bathing our dogs.

I have a hand-held that i can mount as a regular shower. (That’s also where it lives when I’m not using it.) That’s good when want both hands free for lathering.

We have very hard water which irritates my skin and scalp. I shower when I’m dirty or sweaty.

Pizza with sausage, spicy peppers and honey has been popular here for a while. It is delicious.

I said ‘Other’ on towels (thank you for the option) because I don’t actually know. We have four people using towels, and stacks of them above the towel hooks, and when I shower I check if one of them is dry and doesn’t smell moldy/unclean; if it’s moldy/unclean I drop it in the basket handily placed below, if it’s good I use it (otherwise, on to another towel). When the basket is near full, I bring it down to the laundry and bring up an empty basket next trip up.

I shower five or six times a week, more in the summer when I walk most days, less in the bitterly cold season.

My wife of 30 years is 1 year younger than I. I had only one serious relationship before her, with a woman who also happened to be 1 year younger than I. These were both by happenstance, and not necessarily preference.

I had a number of casual dating relationships in my younger days, including one who was 8 years younger and one who was, I think, 12 to 14 years older. None of these rose close to a level that I would consider labeling as “spouse/partner.”

I have my own personal towel supply. But i, also, swap out for a clean towel when the one there smells of anything other than “clean towel”. I think that’s more often in the summer, when the bathroom tends to be warm and damp, then in the winter when it’s generally cool and dry.

I have been in three serious relationships:

  • The first started when I was 18, with a 32-year-old woman. Yes, it was a big age gap. No, my parents were not happy about it. It lasted for about a year and a half.
  • The second was with a woman who was two years my junior: I was 20, she was 18, when it began. It lasted for close to two years, and got to the point where we were talking about marriage; it turned out to be an extremely amicable break-up, and she and I still talk regularly.
  • The third was with a woman who is two years my senior. We got married 34 years ago.

I usually take a bath and finish by rinsing under the shower. Sometimes I just take a shower. I didn’t know how to answe that poll.

In either case, usually it’s about twice a week, and always includes washing my hair. I have very dry skin, and my hair is somewhat less dry.

I don’t really notice when our towels get changed, but my better half just informed that it’s every Tuesday.

I shower daily, but sometimes more if I do something to get sweaty after the first shower.

My husband is 14 years older than me. We met when I was 22 and he was almost 36. Now we are 38 and 52. Both of us had mostly dated people closer to our own ages - I never had a lengthy serious relationship, but several dates and “flirty” situations. My husband had been younger in a previous relationship.

Strangely, I am the younger one and I don’t like a lot of movies/shows/music that were made after the mid-2000s. He watches and listens to more newer stuff than I do!

This is pretty much me. As I aged, I didn’t need to wash my hair as frequently. During covid I got used to pulling my hair up in a scrunchie since I couldn’t go to the hairdresser, and I’ve kept up the habit. I trim it myself with nail scissors and only realized not long ago that I was doing my hair like Kinsey Milhone.

I shower every other day unless I get really sweaty on my off-days. I stopped showering everyday during the bad drought and got into that routine. I’m retired, so it’s not that important to shower everyday.

ETA: forgot to mention about the handheld shower. I will never have a shower without one. It also makes cleaning the shower infinitely easier. Rain Showers are useless.

If you finish with a shower, and it’s about twice a week, I’d say, “twice a week”. But if you think your rinsing isn’t real shower, then vote “i don’t shower”.

The poll was a reply to mmm’s poll, that tied how often you changed your towels to how often you “shower”, except the final option, which was based on time. I thought his poll had two implicit assumptions, both that you only use a bath towel after showering, and also that you shower frequently. I was curious how true those assumptions are.
