Discussion thread for the "Polls only" thread (Part 3)

Absolutely. I recently had one installed on the utility sink in my basement. Makes it so much easier to clean that sink. The plumber who installed it was jealous. His wife grooms dogs, and he thought our utility sink (next to the washing machine) would be a much better setup for washing small dogs than whatever his wife uses.

Wow, every dog groomer I’ve ever seen has a hand sprayer. What a pain in the butt for the woman who doesn’t have one. Plumber help your wife!

He said he was going to. But it may have been my sink, more than the sprayer i was adding, that he was jealous of. I installed a nice commercial stainless steel sink. The contractor wanted to do vinyl or something. (My old, fake-soapstone sink had died.) Commercial grade stainless steel is comparable in price to the cheaper “residential” options. Every workman who has been in my laundry room since has admired it.

My wife is older than me… by 5 days (I always joke that she took advantage of my youth and inexperience), so I marked “other”.

No! Vinyl is terrible. It can get scratched and dirt can get in the scratches that are near impossible to get out. Ugh. The professional grade stainless sounds perfect.

I’ve had three long relationships.

My first wife was a year older than me.

My next relationship lasted 5 years. I’m bad with dates but I think she’s 7 years younger.

My wife is 11 years younger than me. We are both of an age that it doesn’t seem to matter much.

When I was about 19 I had a fling with a woman 20 years my senior. It was a lot of fun and very “educational”. All of my other partners have been within a few years in age, but honestly it’s not something I ever consciously thought about. My first wife was 3 years younger. My current partner is 5 years younger.

Wasn’t sure whether my computer background would be classed as an image I found on the internet, a personal image or something else (what I entered)

I went on an Antarctic cruise and passengers were invited to download their images that they were happy to be made available to all passengers. I’m a terrible photographer and many people on the cruise were deeply into it so I downloaded quite a few, one of which (of a humpback whale) I use for my background.

I’ve had various photographs and pieces of art as my computer desktop background over the years; mostly, they’ve either been from movies I like, or album covers that I like.

For the past few years, it’s been this painting by illustrator Roger Dean, who has done many pieces for the progressive-rock group Yes; this piece, “Pathways,” was created for their first live album, Yessongs.

During the winter, I might not take a shower every day, but that is my usual. Sometimes in the summer, I take two showers, one a fast cold water only “cool off” after working outside.

I find desktop background images distracting and if they are too busy they sometimes make it harder to see actual folders and files on the desktop. I use a plain solid color.

I would call that a personal image. That is, if the cruise was small enough that you knew all the people on it. I might can it a personal image anyway, but might go with “other”.

And literally the first album I ever bought! $5.99 for a triple album was a bargain.

Cruise had about 100 passengers I got to know a decent proportion but probably less than half.

Did you know the person who took the photo? Did it feel like part of something you had all done as a group?

Not sure if I knew the person who took the photo.

I did have a special moment with humpbacks as we watched then bubble feeding while I was kayaking but the photo was not taken at that time.

Relationships, voted all have been within five years. I haven’t had a LOT of relationships to be clear. First girlfriend was about 4 years older (23 to my 19), my second was less than a year older, and my third (my wife of 24 years next month) is three months older.

The cradlerobber!

Hot honey falls in “okay, but I probably wouldn’t get again” with a massive proviso or three. I really like hot/spicy foods, but most of the hot honeys are high in cinnamon heat and low in capsicum heat. Not my preference.

I’d absolutely have it again, especially on a sweeter baked good, but I’m not impressed enough with all the varieties I’ve seen to pay a premium to buy it, or buy a bottle again (I’ve gone through two as gifts) of my own.

I haven’t had many relationships, either. And I’ve been married since my 20s, when she differences mattered more.

As for hot honey, it tastes like capsicum to me. Ick! I’ve only had it by mistake, or because that was the pizza available. And… It detracts, both because of the capsicum and because i don’t really want honey on my pizza. I avoid the stuff.

If some of it is hot from cinnamon, rather than from peppers, it might be worth trying it on pastries, although i haven’t seen it in that context. But i didn’t see why a pastry can’t have spices and sweeteners added separately, each in an appropriate amount. What is added by mixing the spice with honey?

This is the one I was gifted:

For me, myself and I, the cinnamon was the dominant note, with the heat (from habaneros) being almost imperceptible. But that’s for me who is quite accustomed to adding quite a lot of peppers to my foods.

Sweet often masks the heat, so it’s a double whammy perhaps. So I’d probably just have to make my own, the same way I make my own hot sauce. It wouldn’t be hard, but more trouble than it’s worth for me than putting together the the elements I want in the dish itself.

For example, I’ve made this dish:

And just added plenty of cayenne to raise the heat in a fairly flavor-neutral way.

I have a bottle of hot honey in my pantry. I sometimes add a squirt to vanilla yogurt.
