Discussion thread for the "Polls only" thread (Part 3)

When I rode, I preferred a mule. But that was some time ago.

In case you were unaware, a hinny is the “reciprocal cross” of a mule.

A mule is the result of a crossbreeding between a mare (female horse) and a jack (male donkey). A hinny is the reverse: the product of a mating of a stallion (male horse) and a jenny (female donkey). They tend to be smaller and gentler than mules, and more cautious. They aren’t common, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen one, either.

Regarding death and SDMB notification: probably “other.”

My lovely bride knows that I’m active on this board, but really does not know (or care) about details. Were I to have forewarning of my demise (e.g., a terminal diagnosis), assuming that this board still exists at that point, I would probably leave instructions for her to make a post here.

Otherwise, I am friends with a few Dopers on Facebook, and a few others at least know who I am over there. Unless Facebook is radically different (or doesn’t exist) when I pass, news of it would spread there, and a Doper would likely learn of it there, and could, potentially, share the news here.

The last time I disappeared for 20 years, to the best of my knowledge no one noticed. I can’t imagine it would be much different.

My wife won’t care about posting here, but I know another poster IRL and maybe that person will? I’m kind of indifferent to be honest.

Why not tunabird?

I used to drink Jolt with !51-proof Bacardi long ago when I was young less old.

Impeach Trump in '27? “Yes” is the best option in the poll, but '26 would be better.

Unless it had a sign on it, I wouldn’t know if it was a horse or a mule – just a large equine.

Some dogs are okay – I even owned a dog once – but I very much prefer cats.

I’ve seen Ghostbusters, but have no idea which names go with which bodies.

Limit of four items? Depends on what the item is and how perishable it is.

If asked to spell the name of the Governor of California, I definitely wouldn’t remember (or probably even care) what his name is.

Fan clubs? Patty Loveless and Reba McEntire.

For the gambling question, I would set an amount I was willing to lose before I started, and quit once I’d lost that much – no matter how far ahead I was.

I had a tuna melt at SubVets a few weeks ago.

Coffee maker in the pantry? No – our Keurig lives on the counter, plugged in. (And which category does a Keurig fit in?)

Breakfast in bed? Only when in hospital.

I might have mentioned this board IRL, but no one knows my user name.

A bug is a type of insect, the same way Hoover is one manufacturer of vacuum cleaners.

I use the term “bug” for centipedes and millipedes, so I guess I include just about any arthropod.

A bug is an insect that has mouthparts for piercing and sucking. Mosquitos and aphids are bugs. Lightning bugs are not bugs. Most beetles are not bugs.

I have a real-life friend who is familiar with the SDMB, though not an active poster. At some point, I plan to tell him my user name and request that he inform the board of my demise. If I don’t die suddenly before I get around to it. And if he doesn’t go before me. So I guess that’s an “other.”

In my vernacular “bug” doesn’t mean anything, but at work spanish speaking programmers use “bug” (pronounced “boog”) to mean a glitch in a program that we usually have to fix.

A bug is a creepy-crawly.

If I’m off the SDMB for more than 30 days without saying farewell, assume I’m dead.

No one in the real world knows I’m here.

I have stopped reading and posting for over a year at a time with no inquiring PMs despite almost 20K posts at this point, so I’m not sure my absence would be noticed.

When I was a pedantic little kid, I learned what bugs really are, and so I made a point of only using the word to refer to insects that were, in actual fact, bugs.

Nowadays, I’m not quite so pedantic, but I still like being accurate, so if I’m being careful and precise I’ll try to say exactly what I mean, which in most cases is “insects” or “creepy-crawly” or “arthropods” or something like that. But I can’t assure that I never use the word in its more colloquial sense—or to refer to VW Beetles, programming errors, or a certain wascally wabbit.

Bug in casual use is about any small crawly and/or flying thing. Bug at a farm conference session or similar is likely to be more precise.

There’s a note in my desk asking the Dope to be notified. How long it would take for anybody to notice the note, or whether it would be missed altogether, I don’t know. I have told a couple of people that I post here.

There is no way George is going to die before he gets the chance to dance on Bill’s grave.

I very much want George to be the last Starfleet office alive, but I fear that Shat will outlive him just to piss everyone off.

Takei and Shatner will die on the same day, a July 4th, each unaware of the other’s passing.
