I chose “between a couple of minutes and 10 minutes,” because the poll asked for an average, but it’s almost never in that range. About 60% of the mornings, I don’t look at my phone at all; on the rest, it’s sometimes for a minute or two – but about twice a week, it’s for an hour or so – typically, on mornings that I do the New York Times crossword puzzle.
I don’t keep my phone within reach of my bed. So by definition I have to get out of bed before I can look at my phone.
I have made my phone inoperable between 10 PM
and 6 AM…so when I do stay in bed to use it before getting out of bed, it’s usually during the 6 AM hour.
I’m wondering what AI has to do with leveling concrete.
I was wondering what it had to do with 18th-century political tracts.
Yes, that’s why I selected ‘other’.
I don’t touch my phone at all after waking up, but the poll included personal electronics, and I frequently read morning headlines and check flags here on my tablet for 5-10 minutes before heading down to ride the stationary bike and the rest of the morning routine.
What does “screeded” mean? My autocorrect changed it to “screwed.”
Screed as a verb means to level a concrete floor. As a noun, screed is a type of fortified cement used for floors. Screeding involves pouring concrete into a frame and using a long pipe or board to evenly scrape it even with the frame.
e.g. In the Navy I was assigned to work with the Sea Bees to screed the concrete floor of a building under construction.
Thank you. That explains the posts about concrete. I thought a screed was like a manifesto. The dictionary site I went to says this: A screed is a long, often tedious piece of writing or a speech—frequently an angry rant or diatribe.
I have no idea what someone would actually be trying to communicate with that sentence. I voted it was stupid.
It means that also, but isn’t typically used as a verb in that context. I believe the poll was about verbing the noun. It amused me because the alternate meaning does have a verb form.
Verbing weirds language.
I made hamburgers yesterday. As usual for me when making most things, I made extra. I will probably though not certainly eat one of the leftovers today; but I won’t be either making or buying any.
I’m not buying a burger today, specifically, but I do have a coupon from Shake Shack for a free burger (with a $10 purchase) that’s good until the end of the month. I’ll probably use it tomorrow.
I used to have that Calvin and Hobbes strip on the wall of my work cubicle.
Thank you - I was afraid I was having a stroke. I kept looking for a poll about AI and concrete and not finding it.
Well, damn. I had a burger yesterday. And it’s cold and raining today, which calls for soup.
I did not know today is hamburger day, but I did buy a package at Costco this morning.
I about had a cardiac event when I saw the price: $42.
mmm
How many pounds was that, & what type, 80%, 90%, etc?
I found a generic news article with 40 places celebrating. At least half I’ve never heard of or are not in the area. Of some of those that I have heard of I don’t know of a local location & of the few remaining ones, you need to use their app to get the deal. Nope. There was a whopping one where I could walk in & say the magic phrase at the counter to get the discount.
There is raw chicken in the fridge; if it’s no good then maybe I’ll buy stuff to make burgers, but it’s getting long in the tooth beak & needs to be cooked up.
