Discussion thread for the "Polls only" thread (Part 3)

Just checked. $40.73 for 6.8 lbs. at $5.99/lb. of 88/12.

Maybe it’s not that outrageous after all, it’s a big hunk 'o burger.

mmm

If my hair is really dirty or is full of product (hairspray, mousse, wax, or whatever) then I’ll repeat the shampoo cycle. Otherwise, I’ll lather, rinse, and move on.

That’s my best guess, but i still don’t understand what it would mean to screed an AI poll. “I have no f***ing clue what you are trying to say” wasn’t one of the options, so i voted “other”.

I don’t have a bottle of shampoo in front of me right now, but IIRC the wording on most of them is something along the lines of “repeat as needed” or “if necessary”. I don’t know if any of them outright say you must repeat, always.

“Lather, Rinse, Repeat” is kind of a trope. I worked in the haircare industry in the late '80s and early '90s, and even then, ISTR that the instructions on our shampoo bottles said “repeat if necessary.”

Ditto.

Why couldn’t the computer programmer get out of the shower?

He or she eventually got out when the whole thing collapsed with a stack overflow error.

I wonder whether the tendency to double wash is connected with the frequency of washing.

If I washed my hair daily, I don’t think I’d repeat the lathering.

So I took a look at my shampoo bottle this morning (Technically, one of those 2-in-1 shampoo + conditioner products). The closest thing to instructions read “Lather. Wash. Rinse. Don’t overthink it.” This was one of those hair care products marketed to men, so they were probably trying to make the instructions sound somewhat macho.

Storing food containers with their lids on would eat up far too much cabinet space.

I store the containers themselves in a nested fashion, with the lids stacked on top — which I’m thinking counts as “separate” for the purposes of the poll.

Me too, exactly this.

Name/post mismatch.

When I was working, I washed my hair every morning. During the height of our drought, I started showering evey other day, and I never wash my hair outside the shower. Now, unless I’m going anywhere that I care about my appearance, I only wash my hair every five or six days. It really doesn’t get that dirty, but I will Repeat my washing.

I’ve never had an issue with needles. My dad was a mega blood donor, so I had that behavior modelled for me. I started donating in college, and at work, the Red Cross bloodmobile came quarterly, and I donated every time. Then, I started doing pheresis donations. I had a friend/coworker who was very needle-phobic. When I’d do the pheresis donations and come back to work with bandages on both arms, he’d avoid me saying just looking at me made him feel faint.

Ditto three on the tupperware.

Yup. Most of my “Tupperware” is actually deli containers, saved from takeout food. That all have the same lid! And they clean easily. (And if one doesn’t clean easily, there will be another coming along soon, so out it goes.) They are far better than purchased reusable plastic containers.

So i have a stack of quart containers, and a stack with cup containers on the bottom, and pint containers on top, with a handful of 1.5 cup containers mixed in. And a stack of lids. Easy peasy.

I also have some flat black Chinese food containers. They are nested together, and sit directly on top of the nested lids. They didn’t all match, so one day i sorted them, and threw away all except the plurality type. Now they all match, and i only save new ones that fit with those.

Yes, i have a handful of other storage pieces, which are stored in a variety of ways, but those fill the enormous majority of my reusable plastic container needs.

My wife uses lunchmeat containers like that, perfect size for sandwiches, and the lids are stored next to the bottoms.

But we also have a good number of stainless steel containers we use for leftovers. The lids are hardly ever interchangeable, so they are stored with the lid on.

We seem to have one of every size, so there is no nesting of food storage containers. Some came as sets so that they can nest Russian doll style with their lids attached.

Since “Ma” and “raw” are homonyms for me (well, “ma” and “maw”), I assume the question is asking, “do you pronounce the state with a vowel that isn’t even in your dialect, or the other one?”

(In other words, if “ma” and “raw” are different vowels, it’s useful to ask which one is in Utah, but voters for whom there’s no distinction will muddy the poll.)

I dont see any difference in pronunciation between the choices-Ma and raw rhyme to me, so "you-tah " and "you-taw’ seems the same. Google says “yoo-taa”.

I dont understand the poll at all.

When I say “maw,” my lips pucker. When I say “ma,” they remain completely unpuckered.
