12 team league. Going Brady-Owens 1-2 left me scrambling for those precious running TD’s, but it’s hard to identify more than a handful of RB studs in TD only this year. Grabbing depth at RB left me thin at WR after Owens, but I feel pretty happy overall.
If QB td’s are worth as much as running, you should be fine. If they’re 3, I think you have trouble ahead. McGahee’s injury and the practice reps that Rice is getting could mean a huge problem since he’s your number one rb. You have pretty good depth though, but with the huge pool of mediocrity that is this years rb class, it may not help you that much. I like Roddy White, but having both White and Turner puts you in the troubling position of having a lot riding on the Atlanta offense, an offense that doesn’t really look too good. And, although he was a nice surprise last year, I don’t see Reggie Williams getting as many td’s this year.
So you have two studs in Brady and Owens, and then a lot of question marks. I think you’ll definitely be competitive, but unless Atlanta develops, it could be a long season.
Not crazy about rackers, but he was the best kicker left in round 14. consistency means less to me than scoring opportunities, and so long as the powers that be don’t force Matty Boy into the lineup I expect lots of scoring chances. Plus he has the big leg for the long distance bonuses. I think Fitz is over valued this year (great, but not Wayne-Owens-Moss territory). Boldin is generally undervalued, but someone snatched him up a couple of picks before I had him targetted.
I’m not to worried about McGahee, so long as either brown comes back strong or Turner holds up for a season. Graham will cover for me until one of the 2 pans out. I love Roddy White - don;t know why so many people discount him. 1 bad rookie season under the Vick regime doesn’t make him a bust. He gets unfairly lumped with jenkins, et al - but I’ve seen him in person twice and he is dynamic, talented, and tough. I agree that Williams is unlikely to net 10 TD’s again, but I expect 7 or 8, easy whichn makes him solid value as a #3 WR in this league.
I had McGahee last season and it took him forever to get into the endzone. He ended with a mediocre 8 TDs and that was without ever scoring 2 in a given game. He only has 1 receiving TD in his career and Ray Rice has been stealing all his thunder this preseason. It’s worth noting that this is a completely different coaching staff and offensive scheme but he averages 8 TDs a year for his career on 2 teams.
Ronnie Brown is losing touches to Ricky Williams this preseason and is struggling to get back from his injuries. Even when he was at a 100% he was only averaging 5 TDs per year, though it’s safe to assume the 'Phins will be a bit more productive in the redzone with Parcells running things.
I like Turner a lot and he’ll be fine if the Falcons passing game can do anything to take pressure off and Graham is at least secure in a starting role. Still, both offenses are suspect and who knows how many opportunities they will have.
I don’t think you’ll get much of anything out of the WRs behind TO. Ted Ginn? Really?
Ginn Jr. might not turn out to be that bad of a pick. He is their number one wideout, and has Pennington throwing to him now (granted he can’t throw the ball further then 30yds, but is extremely accurate within that range).
Roddy White put up decent numbers once Redman was given the starting job. Unfortunately Ryan was named the starter, but maybe he can become comfortable with the system quickly.
I would try to maybe package Bulger and a RB, and try to land a more consistent runner then McGahee
I’m actually expecting Turner and Graham to be my top RB’s at least through week 6. By then either brown or McGahee might have rebuonded. Johnson is the wild card, of course, but LenWhale will get the short TD’s unless he blows a tire. Hey - it’s easy to poke holes in most any back east of LT this year. After the top 5, there’s hardly a TD lock in the group. Taking Brady over Steven Jackson pretty much guaranteed that I would not get a stud runner. That’s the way it always works. I’m not a big McGahee fan, but I chose him over Jamal Lewis, Willie Parker, Lawrence Maroney, Reggie Bush, Thomas Jones, et al. The only one I had to think hard about was Lewis.
I clearly believe more in Roddy White than most folks, but I’m okay with that. Ginn is a #1 WR who also returns kicks and I got him in round 11 - Yeah, I’m fine with that, too.
