You would also expect more Americans as The Straight Dope is published in papers there.
If you look at migration maps, there are more Irish descendants in the South than anywhere else. And that is where my ancestors have lived for eleven generations. I memorize Yeats. TRINITY is my favorite novel (But my people were from Ulster.) I’m a descendant of an O’Daniel somewhere along the line. I WANT TO BE IRISH!!!
I saw Ireland once, but it was from four or five miles up.
Think I will go and have another Bailey’s…
I throw myself at your mercy. Adopt me!
Zoe, you can be from Ireland if I can be from Witness Protection. Sounds like a great town.
Believe me, that’s the best place to see it from, weather-wise.
I take great offense at that slacker remark. I’m working very hard at…er…reading this…er…thread…erm…board…erm…I mean…these sections I’m drawing, honest.
jjimm, okay! You can be in Witness Protection. But you have to wear sunglasses and an ugly hair piece.
Hell, he’d look like a certain ‘wintery’ poster on vacation!
Hey, I asked to be in Witness Protection. I already wear sunglasses and an ugly hair piece - I’m going through an Andy Warhol phase.
I’m an Irish- Doper living in the UK. Does that count for both then?
I am a culchie doper signing in
But based in Dublin - stealing all the jobs from da dubs
Ah here now!
Shur there’s no need fur de stereotypes, like…
I am a BIFFO, but the lack of a decent number of IT jobs in the faithful has forced me to emigrate to the peoples republic of Cork. Apparently, if I stay for 5 more years I get to be considered a “local”…
I gotta get out of here before then…
I actually found this place when I saw the light and installed Opera as my web browser. The SD was one of the default links in Opera’s bookmarks.
And also a BUFFALO;)
According to a Corkman I know, “no way is Cork ‘down the country’. It’s the second capital. All right!?!?! Like.”
Yeah, right.
Nah, you’ll always be a blow in.
I am from Portlaoise but have lived in Chicago since I was 6, do I count for anything?
You know, I’ve never cared for that designation. Perhaps it’s just because of my inherent dislike of people from Laois, or maybe It’s because of the problems of sharing a political constituency with the feckers (Makes it harder to get more of the likes of BIFFO Cowen elected, don’t ya know?), but I would prefer not to be associated with them…
Feel free to keep calling me a Beautiful Intelligent Fellow From Offaly, though…
Ain’t that the truth.
My Great gran & Great granda lived in Hillsborough, my gran & then my mum was brought up there. I was born in Lisburn but moved back to Hillsborough a few years ago.
I am refered to as a ‘blow in’ still, in the local pub(s). Four generations on…(OK, with a slight 20 year hiatus). You can never become a real local.
Damn, sorry MikeG , just my luck someone from Laois would show up…
No worries Flair, we did leave as soon as we were able
Amen to that!
And I’d also like to add a very special Boo! for all the bad or inaccurate information one gets form The Department of Foreign Affairs and The Department of Justice, Equality and Bureaucracy. In five conversations with them I don’t think I’ve been told the same thing twice.
Just to point out that you don’t have to wait in line overnight anymore. They’ve vastly extended the opening hours at immigration HQ and it’s now possible (allegedly, but this is coming directly from someone who actually did it) to get there at say 8pm and leave before 9.
Of course why they can’t just let you do it by post like every other civilised country in the world is another story …
