Twice in this last week I’ve had people on other forums actively confused about my gender. This happens fairly often. Even within hours of my clearing it up, it’ll happen again. It’s uncanny, really.
I’ve actually long since stopped being surprised when people are confused about my gender. Heck, half the time I’m more surprised when someone gets it right first shot. Still, I’ve become curious.
Which way do I read to the Dope?
I’ve deliberately avoided reference to it in this post, to get as clean a reply as possible.
I say female, though I don’t know why. Maybe most people default gender to whatever their own gender is? I’m female, therefor I think the unknown dopers are female, unless their name suggests otherwise. I suppose it’s a possibility.
These fellas are actually where I got the name. The yamabushi are less cool.
Funny you should say that. Most people also peg me as somewhat older or much younger than I am. (28 for the record.) I’ve been guessed at 15 and 30 pretty consistantly since I was 20. :smack:
Apparently this is the ONLY forum online where I come across semi-consistantly as male. Funky.
enigmatic, for some reason, you’re ‘female’ in my mind, for whatever that’s worth.
(On preview. Hee. Clam Jerky. I still get a kick out of that.)
I automatically assume everyone’s a male, even those with “girl” or “chick” in their names. It’s a habit I picked up from various other message boards, this being one of the few with authentic females.
We have too many members for me to remember everyone’s gender. I’m thinking I remember female. Your link to that armored, bird-headed creature with huge tassles on its nipple rings  would have been ambiguous if you hadn’t said “these fellas.”
It doesn’t matter, though, what your gender is. Not to me, anyway, whether you are male, female, human, or Martian. If you’re smart, witty, and not a jerk, you’re my friend. OK?
Before I saw your link, I might have guessed you were a penguin or a Sherpa.
I always think I come across as male (not so much now that I know a few dopers, and have said numerous times that I’m not) but that comes from my interests (video games, dungeons and dragons, action films).
I get mistaken for male in real life (more often in the winter as bulky clothes hide my more obvious chestal assets) and I have short hair and I don’t wear makeup.
