seem to have been used in “The Time Machine”-I also think I’ve seen them in several “Twilight Zone” episodes…anyway, these are now over 57 years old-is it possible they still exist in some Hollywood costume warehouse?
Almost certainly. I saw one of them at the 1976 Star Trek convention in Boston. It had been dyed brown in 1959 for use in the film Atlantis – The Lost Continent (in which you can see other Forbidden Planet aretifacts, if you look closely, like the instrument dials from the Krel m lab). I’m sure whoever had that for the SF film exhibit (which also included Klaatu’s suit from The Day the Earth Stood Still and some Star Trek phasers) kept it safe and protected.
And you’re right – like Atlantis, The Time Machine (another George Pal film) and The Twilight Zone were MGM productions, as FP was. There are LOTS of FP props in the Twilight Zone, including Robby (used three times), Morbius’ car (“The Rip Van Winkle Caper”, the Cycloramsa, and LOTS of uses of cruiser C57D.
