Do you feel like you have made an impact here?

I don’t think I’ve made an impact here.

sorry Loach, you weren’t there when I hit reply. Here ya go…

Loach: NameRec: High, Impression: Funny and decent in general, Baffling and frustrating in some GDs

Impact? Nah. That’s okay, though. I’m not looking to change the SDMB world.

I think my impact is is pretty slim to nill. Some posters recognize me, but 90% of the time it’s some of the few I’ve met at the one dopefest I went to, or the few posters I talk to outside of the boards.

I think my very brief, non-threatening, easily forgettable name has something to do with it.

If I haven’t by now, there isn’t much point in trying any more:) What’s more important to me, though, is helping even a few individual people here, rather than have X% of people say “yeah, I know your screen name and don’t have you on my ignore list.”

Well, if you want to make a (positive) impact, it helps to have a few specialty areas of expertise which are of common interest to many, but which you have at least above average knowledge, along with bona fide experience to combine with it. And you should be willing to share it in a way that’s not too snotty. It also helps if you have strong enough ego functions to be able to handle it when you’re shown to be wrong by the Teeming Millions.

Also make sure to participate in threads in which you have interest, but no particular expertise, and solicit information from the members here, in general and by name when appropriate.

Do that steadily for about a thousand posts, and you’ll generally get remembered in a good light, and get mentioned by dopers seeking your input.

Who the hell posted all that common sense. Here in Doperstan. Don’t get much of that around these parts.

Seems like a nice enough fellow.

Yayyy, I recognize the last 5 posters.

Impact? Not really. I usually don’t say anything important.

QFT

(if you’ll forgive me for bringing a convention from another MB to the SDMB)

Quick Fourier Transform?
Quantum Field Theory?
Quantitative Feedback Theory?
Queen’s Film Theatre?

Quoted For Truth.

I don’t want to do that but I did look over the thread and out of everyone that posted, I recognized all but three and have a definite opinion on ten of them.

The others that I recognized but don’t have any real opinion on, I still have an impression of.

Guess I pay more attention than I thought I did.

Ah. Thank you [sup]2[/sup]

I know I’ve had an impact, because every time there’s a discussion about the board’s funniest threads, my telemarketer rant is either nominated in the OP or within the first ten posts.

However, nothing else I’ve posted here has elicited much comment outside its original thread. There was a minor blip when my staff report was published, and every so often somebody will reference my (sadly stalled) website, but that’s about it.

So it’s kind of a mixed bag.

If only, if only, if only I had larger tits…

Well it takes me a long time to make friends on message boards so I don’t expect anyone to know me. I know that I don’t have any particular style and I don’t post a lot. Even on a small board, I have to keep posting a long time before people remember me or see a pattern to my posts.

A lot of the people who posted in this thread and said they aren’t noticed are noticed by me.

I am at the stage on this board where I am starting to know who is who but almost everyone I ever recognize has a high post count or a high post count relative to register date.

Qadgop the Mercotan, your post full of suggestions has one itty bitty flaw: TOO MUCH WORK!

Tone it down a bit, willya? We can’t all be overachievers

Naw, I don’t think so. But it was never my intent to make an impact. I mostly pop in and welcome people, or send supporting thoughts for people in distress.

I was truly touched with the support memebers gave me when my dad passed last year and again when I had my operation earlier this year, so those posters certainly made an impact on my life.

Yep. I’ll remember **Cervaise ** now.
She’ll be the Doper-girl-who-wanted-bigger-tits.
:stuck_out_tongue:

And in keeping with Qadgop’s advice:
So Cervaise, how big are your tits now?

Having met Cervaise, I must say she is one of the ugliest women I’ve ever met despite enjoying her company.

Goatees on women just aren’t attractive.

Sadly he is male, so I expect whatever bonuses big boobs would bring him online, might be trumped by potential negative consequences in RL ;).
