One Note Posters

I’ve been a member of the SDMB for about three and a half months now and have over five hundred posts but I bet that outside of a dozen people, no one has a clue as to who I am. Why? 'Cause I tend to only post about certain topics… most notably Star Trek. I have a few other things I post about but Trek’s the only thing I know well enough to post about and not be trampled on by other, infinitely more knowledgeable, people here.

Anyone else like that? Have you been here for a while but still mostly faceless to the teeming millions due to your relative reclusiveness?

I just noticed that you have posted in a Forum other than Cafe Society.
Ain’t it nice to be noticed?

Well, I know who you are, Aesiron, but I tend to read a lot of the Star Trek threads. I know what you mean, though . . . I, too, occasionally wonder how many people recognize my name.

Ack… no, I swear this isn’t an excuse for people to tell me they know who I am and all that. I just thought it’d be a nice variant of the lurker type threads… instead of being someone that rarely posts, somoen who posts fairly often but limits themselves: know what I mean?

Aside from that, though - Hi, Viva. And hello to you too, Mephisto. I recognize your name… it’s a bit hard to forget the alias of the Dark Prince.

I think I started out as a TMI poster and frequented threads about kinky sex. Honestly.

Now I get out and about more, into Cafe, the Pit…heck, I even posted a thread in GQ this month sans whips and chains.

Being faceless seems to be the point of these boards.

I was when I started out; I just posted on things about Japan and Japanese. I still get drawn to those subjects if they come up, but now I’ll post just about anywhere. After a while you’ll start to get a feel for who really knows their stuff, who’s adding their $.02, and who’s completely full of it, and you’ll start to feel less self-conscious about joining in the conversation.

I mainly post in Cafe Society in music threads.

Aes,…
I know who are and I saw what you did.

Oh really? I’ll have to remember this little tidbit of information.

Aesiron, I know what you mean. In a large messageboard like this it’s hard to be noticed by everyone. I wouldn’t worry. Get to know the people you share an interest with and have fun conversing with them. If you can join in other conversations, great. If not, ahhh … who cares.

I’m still waiting for the juggling topics to appear so I can showing my expertise.

I juggle topics all the time.

:smack: Oh… that kind of juggling.
Which is harder to juggle, chain saws or live cats?

I come here on and off… first checked it out when a friend of mine commented on a few things here that she was disucssing here.

i dont’ even have a clue how many times i’ve posted (certainly not 500 tho!) l have to look at my post count after i hit send…

I don’t think anybody here would know a thing about me…aside from the poster who introduced me to the place, and her and i don’t cross paths here all that often.

I post on a variety of topics though…just whatever catches my attention on the time that i think i might have some worthwhile input on… ( I posted a mega post on sleep apnea a little while back)

anyway… i’m babbling i know lol…it’s late

must say, i haven’t acutally seen that many trek posts…or i’d probably post more often

I’m one of the less comon “women-folk” who enjoys trek!

I’m pretty much a non-entity on the SDMB. I’ve been around a long time, though. So long I remember Wally and when many of the moderators weren’t. I just don’t post very often. I lurk, read threads almost every day, and have a number of well-known posters I stalk (Bibliophage, Polycarp, Esprix, Scotticher, Scylla–I could go on), as their threads and contributions make my life richer. Especially Bibliophage, he’s my favorite since I know I’ll get “just the facts ma’am.” I think the closest I came to becoming “known” was shortly after I registered, due to my post to a thread started by Shirley Ujest (I think) on unusual things that happened during sex. If I showed up at a Dopefest the reaction would be “Huh?”. Actually, I’m pretty comfortable with that; the world needs wallflowers to balance the centers-of-attention.

I avoid Star Trek/Wars threads but I do have a question. Who the hell are you?
That is coming from the guy who’s only claim to fame here at the SDMB is because I own a 66 GTO.

Hey there, Subcommander. How’s the old cloaking device doing?

I’d like to think that my own somewhat…eclectic questions are memorable to some. I’d like to think that.

I don’t know what I post in.

I have no idea how I have the 300 or so posts I do.

It’s nice to have the option.

That would be me. I don’t feel very recognizable and my post count is fairly low, but I enjoy it here. I probably start a few too many threads (maybe two or three a week), but I like the advice that I get here, and I love blowing off steam in the Pit. I do stay out of the political threads, however, because while I’m an active participant on other boards and I’m typically one of the more intelligent debaters on those boards, I feel like I’d get run down by a lot of people here. So I just read them instead.

Ava

I’m kind of like that. Whatever the thread is about, My objective is generally to try and make that one ridiculous post that signals a threads decline and demise.
