Wow…Ive been a member for almost four years and I only have a few over 500. Read it every day, just dont have much to say.
I only post when I’m certain my post contains absolutely no false information, because I don’t wanna be destroyed by one of 'em bigshots. Man, I hope that’s right.
I don’t know how many posts I have here, but I’m the Postmistress General on another board.
Seriously, I stuck to GD and CS for the most part, though recently I’ve branched out into the pit a bit. In some weird way, seeing all the stuff there makes me strive for a more moderate tone. I guess now I’m branching out into IMHO. What’s next?? ATMB? (I did check out a question in there once and got stuck for an hour or so)
I used to think I only posted when I had something constructive or meaningful to say. Lately, I’ve been breaking that rule. Still, I’ve been registered for about 3 years and am just now nearing 100 posts. How some people make it into the 1000s or even 10,000s of posts is beyond my comprehension. I am NOT a woman of few words but I can’t imagine having THAT much to say!
mmm…
I just hit a hundred the other day, although I did take a long (low non-prime number of years) leave of absence after the Pyroto wars.
I’ve lurked for years and I surf the boards several times EVERY HOUR during the workday, yet I have fewer than 100 posts. And most of those have been in the last six months or so, it seems, and self-centeredly at that. My rare other-directed contributions come from my “expertise” in things Hollywood or Muslim. (How’s that for bizarre pairings.)
And I, too, seem to have killed more threads than I’ve perpetuated.
Ditto on once upon a time only saying something when I felt I had something unique to say.
Can’t begin to count how many times I’ve started to reply to a thread only to change my mind halfway through for fear of sounding dumb.
I’m sure there were a few times I should have stopped myself for that very reason, but at least it was in a topic I was comfortable discussing and I could dismiss other people’s opinions because I knew they were wrong
I’m sure if I could bring myself to pointlessly argue the same three topics over and over again in GD in the attempt to change someone elses opinion or find some measure of release by ranting about something trivial in the Pit my post count would be a lot higher and I’d be more recognized.
Ah the life of an easy-going introvert.
What I find strange is that I’ve been lurking so much on the board that I seem to “know” a lot of the posters here. I know how old they are, their number of pets, their favourite food, their girl trouble last weekend, their pet peeves. It’s like having a bunch of really invisible friends. And the strange thing is…those friends don’t know you.
Lately I catch myself looking at other people’s registration date and post count going: [whiney voice] “Why does everybody know them and not me??” [/whiney voice]
But it passes quickly. Then I lean back in my chair and make another thread wither and die by adding my post when everything’s been said and done. Like this thread. Think it’s going to live? (evil laughter)
FWIW, I’m not a one note poster and happily participate in any GQ or GD thread that catches my interest. Although I’ve been corrected on the factual content my posts a few times, I haven’t yet been flamed (I think, or otherwise I’m just dense). If you have the desire to contribute, you can do it even if you’re not quite sure of the facts, as long as you specifically mention that. Of course you should if possible try to have good and properly checked facts in some of your posts, if you want to build a good rep. Furthermore, couching your reply in polite and moderate language helps a lot to get your input read. If everyone contributes a tiny bit of information it may add up to a complete answer (I’ve seen that happen several times).
Even if someone else has already stated something similar, it may be useful to add a small correction or a related viewpoint. You do not have to make the definite contribution that allows for no more discussion (that would actually make a good thread-killing post). Of course, if you like to add viewpoints, MPSIMS and IMHO are much better fora to hang around in. Quite a lot of my posts in those are like ‘Gosh, I’m not the only one. Me to’’ (like in the walking funny thread). I figure the OP likes to know whether there are many people who have similar experiences, so if your post is like a previous one that is not a bad thing.
I do not post just to increase my post count, but I’ve rarely seen people do that (although I don’t understand how Q.E.D. and 2trew get such amazingly high post counts in so little time). I just like to add 2 cents in a lot of times. That should add up to something in the end, shouldn’t it? Hey, I get kicks out of posting a few quick remarks, even if it’s not complete.
That’s at least my take on this. YMMV.
Exactly who I was thinking about, too
Bingo. If I hit submit as many times as I typed a reply I would be in the thousands.
Who?
hehe, nah, I’ve seen ya around.
I like to think of myself as a more of a three-note poster. Actually, I think I may be one of the more anonymous posters who has been around for 3 years, has over 500 posts and has been in the mailbag (on my first post, nonetheless! And its been all downhill from there :))

I certainly don’t have millions of words of wisdom to spew forth - I prefer to read and try to learn something, anyway. There’s several people here that I know very well, both through IMs/chat/LJs and emails, and several that I make it a point to keep up with daily. The people here that know me well don’t know me from the boards, but through the IMs/chat/LJ.
“La”.
Heh, good one NE Texan but it should have been in B minor.
2100 plus posts and I live in obscurity!!!
hey! The Dope is back up!
Yeay.
That’s because it’s illegal to be in A minor.
