Do you feel like you have made an impact here?

I’ll second this. I’m sure you’re tired of saying “We will never run out of oil”, but I think an oil patch thread might be a good thing. I know I’d like to ask about a few things.

I have not so far. Maybe I will, maybe I won’t The only way to know for sure is to come out of Lukerland.

Lemme try on the name recognition bit.

Most of the posters in this thread I do recognize, but unfortunately I haven’t got an immediate personal characteristic to tie to it. But bear in mind, recollection is often only prompted by chance encounters, or an accidental overlap in interest. For others, other names will stand out.

Lobsang: Record-holder of multipost (sextuple post!). Expert in Mundane and Pointless, as well as holder of some irrelevancy award.
Mr. Blue Sky: ELO fan (duh!). often good and/or funny posts.
Aesiron: NameRec: high, posts a lot, though mostly on different subjects than me.
ultrafiler: Mathematician, contributes to math threads with solid information.
Grey: Female? I recall a gentle personality
Master Wang Ka: Left-leaning in politics. Teacher, writes funny stories.
Antigen: Canadian, had other username. Contributes on a variety of subjects, informative and/or supportive.
pravnik: tattood law student (or clerk?). Good posts.
Meatros: NameRec: high, but may confuse him with astro and someone else (meandro?).
Abbie Charmichael: Right-wing, christian. Besides those subjects generally good contributions.
iampunha: Unfortunately I don’t recall what he looks like with clothes on.
Qadgop: Dutch ancestry. MD and Tolkien fan, probably bores patients with lengthy discourses about the origins and alternative names of medicinal herbs.
Shirley Ujest: Seems to have sunny disposition in posts.
Cervaise: film expert, great posts on those subjects. Besides has an excellent sense of humor and a real talent for puns.
pokey: good-natured girl who posts in a personable style.
Tamerlane: very well read in history and ME-affairs, as well as other subjects. Doesn’t post much other than informative posts.
tomndebb: but like Tamerlane, except not those specific expertise but rather all-round. Is catholic.
START: at first easy to confuse with SPOOFE.
NoClueBoy: fun guy, sunny disposition even if he’s a Star Trek nutcase, I tell you whut.

Others I recognize in a positive way, though I can’t immediately recall characteristics: bup, aaslatten, silenus, Loach, FordPrefect, toadspittle, Algernon, bouv, Khadaji, Keapon Laffin, Ruby, Lamia, fessie, LoopyDude, Ringo, Zsofia, ava.

Ones I don’t recognize clearly, even though they seem familiar yet (sorry!): Mr Jim, cornflakes, Skopo, MrFantsyPants, SamIAm336, raindog, Bob55.

Most are good posters, who don’t particularly stand out, but that is not a bad thing. I prefer those people who’re around and contribute regularly without feeling the need to focus on themselves, instead contributing good content. This place wouldn’t be what it is without you.

I’m too new, and contribute mostly to the mundane and the pointless… which very probably means I am mundane and pointless  I just enjoy my time here, learning new and interesting things, reading interesting people’s posts.

Every name I saw in this thread I remember at least a little bit of, having read something of theirs somewhere, at sometime. But then, I have an almost pornographic memory.

Oh dear Og, that’s photographic! I’m so sorry!  :o :o

No problem. If only I had a pornographic memory…

See Anastasaeon, you’ve contributed to your doper impact already. You’ll be known as “that perv”

I don’t think I’ve made an impact, but I judge impact by how many times you’ve been pitted.

::: whew! :::

I was afraid that someone might accuse Tamerlane of having an impact.

Definitely…face first.

So, basically, you know the name because I won’t shut up but don’t know so much about the personality behind it. Sounds about right.

I doubt that I’ve made much of an impact overall.

That being said…

I’d like to thank all the Dopers who have responded to the boards, whose posts I have read.

To those who have made me laugh when I desperately needed to find humor in my life, and for those times when I didn’t even know that I desperately needed to laugh.

To those who have made me think about situations, or ideas, or views that I didn’t realize I needed to explore within my life, or the lives of others, and who made me see another perspective.

To those who allowed me to borrow their knowledge–whether it be useful knowledge or completely trivial knowledge.

To those who, unknowingly through their comments here on the board, have offered a lifeline to someone they didn’t even know, without expecting anything in return.

To those who help alleviate my unrealistic fears, inspired my idealistic thoughts and encouraged my hopeful dreams.

To those who assisted me through boredom, writer’s block, sadness, anticipation, and anger. And yet, remained for joy, excitement, hope and happiness.

I have laughed, and cried, over what I’ve read from Dopers. Yes, some names stand out more than others, however, each and every one as a whole has made a difference.

Which reminds me…

I doubt I’ve made any impact at all. As with most things, it feels like I’m just gliding past on wings of air, and no one notices or cares that I’m here or if I’m gone.

Meh, at least I don’t had a bad reputation. Granted, I don’t have a good one either…

I don’t think I’ve made any impact on the boards as a whole. I helped a few people find some things they were looking for, and I showed someone how to clean up their records on the computer. The rest has been like a conversation, or maybe eavesdropping on conversations. I read, I learn and sometimes I participate. I don’t try to be controversial, or stick out, or have arguments with anybody, so on that score, I don’t guess I rate too high on anyone’s recognition meter. But that’s OK!

Now, only if the people I have to deal with in life were as knowledgeable and well-mannered as the ones I find here!

In a very, very, very narrow niche, I have made an impression on a few people at some point in time. Can’t really ask for more than that.

You like me, you really like me!

Well said.

I wonder those OP Questions too.

I never come to make an impact - really both to learn and to join the other “Know It Alls” (:D) in holding forth on topics that interest me.

I say that and that is partly true but guess who never fails to scan the
Favorite Doper, Thank the Doper, Whose Posts do you read, Who would be who if the SDMB were a TV series or Country etc?” threads …

… and has never had a mention - not that he would care in any way he would tell you and that is certainly a little true – just he has noticed how he is never mentioned.

1000th Post and what a downer – Thanks so much (sarcasm) Actually it is quite an appropriate post for that number

This humiliated me so badly last night, and my husband just howled with laughter, after seeing me gasp in shock and coming over to see what was going on, pointing and taunting “Guess what you’ll be known as!”
I couldn’t tell what was worse - the Fruedian slip, the foolishness one feels after claiming something like having a “photographic memory” (like bragging about how graceful you are and then falling down a flight of stairs) or the fact that it was in a thread about having an impact, and it was a genuine, honest-to-Og mistake - if it weren’t me, I’d think “Yeah, they said that to make an impact.”
Hubby says he regrets not having a Kodak for the moment. I had tears in my eyes, and I’m still not sure if it was from humilation or laughter. Little of both.

So, just for the record, I didn’t mean it, it was late, I was happy my husband was up with me because he had a rare late start for the next day (today), and my mind was obviously elsewhere. I am so, so sorry if I offended anyone - it was not intentional.

You think you’re baffled and frustrated? You should talk to my wife.

Thanks for the rest.

It’s OK, Anastasaeon, no need to worry. Whenever I see your name, the first thing I’m going to think of will not be that perv. There’s no way that anyone could get me to equate Anastasaeon and perv, it just can’t happen. Now, for all you other folks, remember:

Anastasaeon = perv is wrong.

You certainly made my day!
