I was in Denver last night. If only I had known! Now I’m back in NY, and there are simply no outrageous, interesting people here.
Hold out your hat, I’ve got two cents for you. Those things always make me wonder if the girl has some sort of foreign material or food particle on her face until I get a closer look. Just sayin’.
I always thought they looked like a big, shiny metal pimple. I dunno. Almost any other piercing I don’t mind or think is okay, but those ones just leave me going “Meh”.
I guess mostly it’s because the SPPS (Sole Parent Pension Slappers) who live around my way are the only ones who seem to have it around here.
I’ve been tattooed three times and have two tattoos.
I got the first one 12 years ago (when I was 23): a G-clef, on my right ankle. I’d known for a while that I wanted a tattoo, and I’d seen a few friends get them, but I hadn’t been able to figure out what I would get. Finally the clef occurred to me, which was perfect – I always have been and always will be a musician. I wasn’t crazy about the coloring, so I got that “fixed” a couple of years ago.
I got the second one 8 years ago, at a tattoo convention: a wolf howing at the moon, on my upper left arm. I had been thinking about a second tattoo but didn’t have an idea, and saw this design in an artist’s portfolio (the wolf is my totem animal). It took me a while to decide to get it, because a) I hadn’t planned to get a tattoo that day and b) I’m generally opposed to the idea of getting flash (for myself), but I just loved this design and felt that I wouldn’t be able to find anything better. I’ve never regretted it.
Part of me feels like a third tat would be crossing the white trash line (;)), but I know that I’ll get another one someday – I just have to figure out what, and where it would go.
I must have a “girl next door” look about me, because people are always surprised to find out that I have tattoos (among other things about me). I’ll admit that I kind of like that.
Two piercings in left ear, both done by myself. First one was done sober, to piss my “soon to be” (at the time) ex wife off…it worked. Second done in the basement of Blueberry Hill, fucked up as hell to impress girlfriend at the time. They were done 18 yrs ago, i rarely wear anything in them but both are still “active”.
I was a slightly fucked-up kid, self-destructive. I was madly in love with a very damaged, unattainable (because of her own issues) girl when I was about 19. I branded her name and several other phrases on my forearms, in large block letters. It was 14 years ago, and I still often get asked about them. People cannot believe that I’d actually brand myself.
Other than that, just one tattoo, my wife’s name in a heart on my arm. She has my name in a bird on her arm.
Forgot - around the same time as the brandings, had my tongue pierced. a month later, had it done AGAIN, in just the tip of the tongue. That one had to go - I couldn’t talk. Then, I lost the ball holding the other one in my tongue, and swallowed the tongue stud. Never bothered to redo it.
A black and gray tribal dragon on my left upper arm and shoulder. A japanese dragon wrapping from my right upper back to the front of my right shoulder. And, a large back piece near being finished of a colored chinese phoenix opposing and intertwined with a shadowy gray scale asianish - “oriental with white boy influences” as my tattoo artist likes to say - dragon (yes, I seem to have a thing for dragons). This covers most of my back and the tails of the phoenix run down my right butt cheek.
I wanted one for the longest time but didn’t work up the nerve for my first until I was 35 and all the above been done in the last 4 years or so. As the OP said, I to am finding them highly addictive (obviously) and expect I’ll wind up with half sleeves at some point.
Also, considering I shave my head, my friends keep suggesting I get some hair tattooed on top.
Huh, I’ve been getting inked for about 4.5 years now and this is the first I’ve heard of this term. It’s a stupid name, personally I think lower back tattoos on women are sexy as hell and not “trampy” in the least.
What I still have: 2 in each ear, and a tattoo on the back of my lower neck. It’s a green (for me) and purple (for my sister) yin-yang. We both have it because we are so different (ex: my favorite color is still green, but she dropped purple a long time ago). I got it when I was barely 18. If it wouldn’t offend my sister so much, I’d have it lasered off. Mostly I just forget I have it.
What I did have: pierced eyebrow, nose, lip, 3rd on each ear plus a few in the top of my left earlobe. I did them all myself in high school. I can still wear a nose ring if I push it through the mucous membrane but my husband hates them.
I had a friend (may he rest in peace; he died a little under a year ago) who got the tongue piercing and was eating jelly beans and swallowed the whole assembly because he didn’t realized they’d come looks, and assumed it was just another jelly bean.
I have a tongue piercing, but I don’t wear anything in it. As I did for over two years, it hasn’t closed up, and I can still wear something in there if I want - which I do, sometimes - but for the most part I don’t, because as stupid as I think it is, people don’t take me seriously if they notice I have a tongue piercing (which most people couldn’t anyway, because I don’t talk with my mouth wide open).
I also have my earlobes pierced and my cartilege pierced. I never wear anything in them, though.
I have a tattoo of my union bug on my right upper arm, and a tattoo dedicated to my former band teacher, who passed away a few years ago, on my right shoulderblade (that one’s a music note). I have several others planned, and just need the money for them. Tattoos really are addictive.
The Tashaboy has a nose piercing, which he doesn’t wear anything in (because he can’t find anything he likes in natural curve). His ear is pierced, even though he never got it pierced - he had a cockatiel that bit through the earlobe and it pierced it. He can wear earrings in it and everything.
He also has two tattoos. I don’t remember what of, but they’re on either upper arm. He wants one more, “To this, above all else, to thine own self be true” in a ring around one of his arms.
I’m female and 22. He’s male and 36. In case anyone’s keeping track of demographics.
nose, bellybutton and single ear piercings (though my entire left ear was pierced up till I was about 23 or 24…they just all got knocked out one by one and I never put anything back in them)
and 1 tattoo on the mid-lower back. It’s too high for a true tramp stamp. The only time anyone has seen it was when I was bending over in a shirt that was sort of tight to begin with and it crept up and my boss saw I had one.
I’m thinking of getting another one above it…right now I have an ohm but I’ve been debating adding a dharma chakra.
No piercings. I have one tattoo (on my left forearm - quite visible) so far, but I definitely want more. It’s true what they say about getting ink in your blood . . .
None. I had an ear ring when I was young, back in the 80s before everyone was doing it. I have since taken it out and although you can still see the hole, it is closed over inside.
15 piercings (6 in each ear, my nose, and two other), and 4 tattoos. I did a lot of the piercings in my ears myself, the rest I had done professionally. Yes, most of them are visible and I have a good corporate job where I am responsible for meeting with clients on a regular basis. No, I don’t really care for your opinion on tattooed or pierced people in general.
I have a celtic cross on my arm, and the kanji for ‘geisha’ on my back; however, I get the most comment from my ankle tattoos, usually in the form of backhanded compliments from people who say they don’t usually like tattoos, but like mine.
I have a tattoo on my right buh-tock, which I had done about 10 years ago cos I felt like having a tattoo and I had it put somewhere no one can see it - I used to have a pic of it as an avatar… I had my belly button pierced as well, but it didn’t heal properly and when I [finally] managed to get the ring out it healed over in 24 hours…
I had my ears [professionally] pierced when I was 12 cos that’s what 12 y/o girls did in them days
How could everyone miss this? YOU HAVE YOUR BELLYBUTTON PIERCED??? First of all, congratulations on being a trend setter, but what made you decide to do this?
