McKean’s had some success as an actor on his own, but he owes it all to his exposure with Squiggy on Laverne and Shirley.

I would say that Spinal Tap has been much better for Michael McKean’s career than Lenny and Squiggy.

If you have kids and they watch Nick Jr. you probably hear his unmistakable voice every day. He voices Henry the Penguin on the show Oswald.
Since I hear it playing in the background but never watch the screen I just picture Squiggy the whole time.

Once, Henry’s cousin came to visit. It was Michael Mckean voicing. I thought that was great and my daughter had zero clue why I was so amused.

After checking: Squiggy was played by David Lander, Lenny was Michael McKean.

Well, that sucks. I voted “yes” (age 30-40), but I thought it was the Michael McKean character, not the other one (I can picture his face, but didn’t know the actor’s name). So, apparently I don’t really know Squiggy.

I got to speak to both Lenny and Squiggy on the phone. Years ago they hosted a local telethon here. I called in to make a donation and was put on the phone with each of them separately.

58. Laverne and Shirley came on about a month before I left the US to live in England in 1976. I really, really liked the first few episodes, but when I came back 14 months later, it had degenerated into what looked like a parody of The Lucy Show.

I remember reading that Second City TV once attempted to parody Laverne and Shirley and found that it was not possible. No matter how ridiculously they played it, not matter how over the top, it just came across like an episode of Laverne and Shirley.

Maybe that is what happens when the original is already a parody.
