Do You Own a "Car?"

Since N.America seems to have a hate on for station wagons of course they’re going to go get an SUV/CUV. Tarted out and jacked up station wagons. I traded my Beloved Subaru Leg Wagon for a Focus ST; while an RS would have been nice I couldn’t swing a $60k CAD car payment And since Subaru elected to NOT keep their WRX hatch that wasn’t an option either.

The downside of all this is that since everyone is getting taller vehicles, it gets harder to see around them. Stupid zero sum games…

I don’t own a car, but neither do I own a truck, SUV, van, or any other motor vehicle. My primary vehicle is a bicycle.

That’s pretty much how I feel about mine. It has front-wheel drive, unibody rather than a frame, not that much towing capacity, a four-cylinder engine, no off-road capability, and a nicer interior than most of the sedans I’ve owned. By pretty much any metric, it’s a station wagon that sits a few inches higher.

Also, we had minivans for more than 20 years, so the SUV is actually* downsizing*.

I haven’t owned a car since I bought a new Accord in 1987. Since then it’s been a series of pick-em-ups, minivans, SUVs, and Jeeps.
mmm

If I were wanting a wagon, I would try like hell to get Volvo’s V60 Polestar wagon, and yes, in rebel blue.

Like this guy right here: 2017 Volvo V60 Polestar Tested!

Well, yes, I understand that. I don’t mind when anyone goes around me for any reason, as long as they do it safely. Why would I?

I own a Toyota Echo, a four-door sedan.

Nope. Traded in my old truck on a crossover SUV. Haven’t owned a “car” since 1978 or so.

Another Volt owner here. 2012 edition. I like the car, but probably will go all-electric next time. I wish they’d jazz up the Bolt a little bit.

Maybe I’ll finally get a Tesla X (which I guess is an SUV)

And quite expensive.

Yes indeed. That’s why I’ve been putting it off.

Jeep Wrangler for me. Great in the snow.

Kia Rio 5 door (hatchback).

Nice car.
Never owned or really wanted a truck.
More wheels than I needed.

Hey, me too.

Car. Mazda 2. For me, an SUV would be a waste - I don’t often need that much space. I am slightly tempted by the Mazda CX-3, which would be handy the few times I do need more cargo space, but I’ll probably go with another Mazda 2, if/when the current one dies.
My wife has an MX-5/Miata; she’s thinking about either a Mazda 3, 2, or maybe another MX-5.
Yes, we like Mazdas in this household…

I drive a Prius and my husband has a Focus. I used to have a Subaru Forester but after all of its mechanical problems (it was an R title) I went hunting for something that would actually get me where I was going. I wasn’t looking for a Prius but there was one on the lot and after doing the research, we decided to get it. I average around 40 mpg, which beats the hell out of the 18-20 I got in the Subaru. The only real drawback is that it’s harder to take the Labrador to the vet now because he doesn’t fit in the hatchback like he did in the cargo bay.

How many categories of vehicles are there?

When I owned my trucks, the only time I would refer to them as cars when I was asked "Do you have a car (for transport)? Other than that is was always my/a truck.

I call my CR-V a car because I think of SUVs as full size only. Mini, Sub, Mid-size always seems a bit awkward and slightly emasculating. “What do you drive?” “A Mini-SUV!” “Oh…” :frowning: Same with Sub-compact and Mini-van.

A Jeep is a Jeep and a Range Rover is a Range Rover no matter the size or configuration.

Van

Station Wagon - back in the day

Edit: I notice people tend to refer to their electric vehicles by their name rather than as their car. I never say I’m going to drive my CR-V. But I hear people “I’m driving my Prius/Volt/Leaf” etc.

What else is there?

I’ve only ever had cars:

First: 1976 Chevy Nova, V8, terrible mileage but a lot of oomph, no a/c

Second: Dodge Daytona, forget the year, looked and sounded cool

Third: 1999 Chevy Malibu LS, very nice, had it for nearly 10 years

Fourth/current: 2005 Honda Accord V-6 Hybrid. Awesome car.

I own a 2004 Expedition, and I love it. I wish it had more technology, because my daily driver is a 2018 Taurus SHO (I will pick up its 2019 replacement later this morning).

This has me eyeing newer Expeditions, but I can’t justify the cost. I don’t really want to drive a large SUV as a daily driver, but I do want some bells and whistles when I do drive it.

I’m going to miss driving cars. I’m hoping I’ll still be able to get a Fusion Energi again when it’s time to turn in the 2019. Or maybe the Mach 1 (not its real name) will be available. Although it’s a crossover, it will be pure electric, and fast.

Outback; whatever you want to classify that as. I wouldn’t call it a SUV so much as a small wagon. Most of what I have had, outside of classic and vintage, have been wagons or a small version of a SUV such as a Vue.
