Do You Own a "Car?"

Oh Hell Yes! Now I just have to find someone to pay for it. FWIW, had Subaru kept the WRX/STI hatch I would have bought on in a heartbeat.

So far, I’ve always had at least one car. Today I have an older Mercedes Wagon, and a Toyota Highlander. All bets are off, though, when the Wagon gives up the ghost and needs replacing. If the Highlander slides into the Wagon’s role in the “fleet” it may be replaced by another SUV.

Ironically, the “scare quotes” in the OP lead me to believe that this would mean “do you own a motorized, four-wheel, single-party vehicle of any sort, commonly referred to as a ‘car’ even if it is not one” which turns out was the opposite of its intent.

Two ‘cars’ for now, BMW’s 2015 328i and 2018 M2. Those two cars are actually pretty different in ‘personality’ if you’re into cars, but I realize in basic size and hauling ability they are pretty similar and close in age too. But, I just wanted to get the M2 so I did. SUV’s are convenient for hauling big stuff or more people at times. Two of our kids have them. We borrow them sometimes. We might sell the 328i to another of our kids and buy back the older SUV (which was originally ours) when that kid gets a new car. Or else maybe trade in the 328i for a new ‘mass market’ brand (Toyota, Subaru, etc) midsize SUV/crossover. We’ll probably do one or the other before many more years.

I’m on my 2nd Crosstrek. I love them!! Very comfortable and handles Minnesota winters like a champ.

Yes, and a Minivan. I like my car, but I suspect my next auto will be a Truck or a SUV.

I like being high off the ground.

A Citroën C1. Unless you plan on telling me it only counts as the “c” in “car”: it’s as far from an SUV as it can be and still count as a 4-wheels vehicle.

If I ever do buy another one, it will probably be whatever flavor of Smart Daimler has in the market at that point.

We have 3 Buick sedans… oh, wait, down to 2 because we gave one to our oldest’s girlfriend. One is the winter Buick and the other is the rest of the year Buick (the second newest vehicle we own). Mistermage drives 100 miles round trip for work so a car does the best for gas.

1 SUV which is used for when 4 or more of us are going somewhere. At 5’7" I’m the shortest so the legroom gets appreciated. It’s also used for pulling the camper, boat or the pick-up box trailer.

1 smaller truck that belonged to my FIL which is still in excellent shape. We’ll probably give it to the middle child once his little 2 door finally dies (we bought that used for his 16th birthday and he’s ran it hard for the last 5 years.)

2 Conversion vans that we used for camping but they’ll be going down the road sometime. Or scrap one to fix the other up.

Almost all of our vehicles are old but even the newer ones my hubby keeps running. I think it’s just an excuse to keep buying new toys/tools so he can work on them vs buying a brand new car (plus he hates the idea of shelling out a monthly payment close to what we pay for our mortgage).

I have a Honda Civic Coupe. For a while, I was thinking of selling it and going car-free, since parking was a constant problem. Now that I have a parking permit, owning the car is working out well.

Toyota Avalon, F-150 Crew cab, Subaru Forester. So yes, one car.

My husband and son both drive cars (VW Passat and Dodge Neon). I drive a “crossover” (Subaru Crosstrek).

What year and trim is your Avalon? Is it miled out? Do you like the car? I ask because I own one.

As an aside, the Avalon is a BIG car, but it gets reasonably good gas mileage given that and the size of the V-6 in it (3.5L). I recently googled the curb weight of the car, guessing due to it’s outward size that it HAD to be a two ton car and was surprised to learn that it weighs 3500-3600lbs. Well…there was my mpg answer!

My 2015 Buick Regal I used to drive was a midsized sports sedan and weighed 250 more than the Avalon!

Two cars at the moment, Hyundai Sonata and Suzuki SX4.

The Suzuki is styled like an SUV but its just a hatchback with AWD.

The previous two were cars as well. Before that I had a Ford F250, but then gas hit $4.50 a gallon.

Yep, a 2010 Nissan 370Z.

Not only have all six of my vehicles been cars, only two of them have had four doors.

Oh, and I’m 5’3. Sometimes it is annoying to not be able to see around the land yacht in front of me, but on the whole I’d much rather be small and fast!

[Bruce Willis] It’s not a car, Baby, it’s a Jeep.[/Bruce Willis]

My car is a Prius. My wife has a Honda CR-V, which drives like a car to me, and which got 32 mpg going 75 on our cross-country trip.
Back in the dark ages when our kids were little we had a station wagon, and the Honda drives more like a car than that did. So I say it is a station wagon marketed as kind of an SUV.

Yes (a Tesla Model 3). Large vehicles are just annoying to me. I like the zippy feel inherent in a small sports sedan (in fact, I wish the Model 3 were a tiny bit smaller).

I don’t drive, so I probably shouldn’t be contributing, but I’m going to anyway! Here in suburban Australia I see a few Utes (aka pick-ups) and a fair few SUVs but the overwhelming majority vehicles I see are regular cars.

When I was younger I lived out in country New Zealand, and there were a lot of farmers and fishermen with Utes and lots of motorbikes, but even then plenty of cars.

My wife and I test drove a Model 3 recently; she’s thinking of trading her VW Beetle in for one, and she had the same thought as you in that she wishes they were smaller, and I agree. Yes, the Model 3 is smaller than the Model S, thank god, but it is not a small car.

It’s wide enough that I have to be careful with the side-view mirrors when pulling into my garage (about 6" wider than my old BMW 3-series). I think cars have gotten larger in general.

I borrowed a 2005-ish F-150 a while back, and couldn’t park in my garage at all without folding in the mirrors. That would have gotten old really fast.
