So I was doing what I do best, namely lurking and reading all the past topics any and everywhere, when I came across this topic.
Many of the posters in there seemed not to enjoy going to MPSIMS because of all the flirting, lovey, cuddly, fuzzy stuff that goes on there.
This made me think about how many really do not check into MPSIMS cause they see or think of it as pointless, and would rather come here to have a good debate or give their opinion on something rather then be involved in various games, meandering, threads that show actions, or anything else of the like.
So my question to you, fair dopers, is do you follow along and read MPSIMS? Do you post?
If the answer is no, then why not?
I have posted several times in MPSIMS. It’s a place where you can just spout off what is on your mind and not get flamed for having it in the IMHO, Pit or GD forum. I like it. I also have found that I have become a groupie for some other posters because of their witt in MPSIMS.
I like Cafe, IMHO, General. If I’m bored i might risk MPSIMS and once in a blue moon I visit Great Debates because I used to go there a lot and got sick of arguing with stupid people.
I have met (in person) some of the people who frequent MPSIMS, and they seem to be very nice folks. But overall the board seems to be somewhat cliquish. And even if it weren’t, I wouldn’t have time for the banal chit-chat. So I rarely go there.
I read MPSIMS a lot, and post a good bit too, though mostly in game threads. It’s not the most earth-shattering forum on Earth, but it almost always sports a couple interesting theads and links… and there’s little risk of conversation getting heated, which is a good balance after popping out of the Pit.
I live for MPSIMS - it’s easy on the brain, it’s sociable, it’s entertaining. It’s the perfect escape. I wander all over the boards, but Mundane says home.
I do check it, and post. A lot of what’s in there is a little too mundane and pointless for my tastes, so I skip a lot. But that’s where to organize or find out about Dopefests, and since I’m there for that, I’ll reply to some other threads.
Second what Ringo said. In my case, I stuck to GQ for months before I ventured to ANY other forum. When I finally did, MPSIMS was where I first realized that I lived close to a bunch of other Dopers. It’s on my regular cycle now (lots of views, very few posts).
Related to the OP…how are MPSIMS frequenters able to keep up with it, given the way this board works with it’s overtaxed hamsters? I tried to keep up with that forum way back when, but I gave up. If the board were running smoothly though, I might try again.
