Do you think people would notice if YOU stopped posting?

Me? Nope.

Although, come to think of it, I haven’t heard from FairyChatsMom in a while. Whatever happened to her?

Like others have said, I’d be missed in the MMP and I have proof. About three weeks ago I didn’t post in the MMP for two whole days, the horror! I actually got several emails wanting to know what was wrong. I felt those heart cockles warmin’ let me tell ya!

No.

Why would anyone notice?!?

Not a bit. I was in Taiwan for a month and a half last fall and for some reason the SDMB was blocked on the computers that I had access. When I returned to the states someone messed up the list of sites for my favorites on my computer and the SDMB was left in purgatory at the bottom of the list, I rarely venture down there unless I am looking for something. While bored one day during Christmas break, I remembered the SDMB and dropped in. Did a vanity search and found zip point zilch. While in Taiwan, I was working on the Dreamlifter and had hoped to post some stuff about the plane and Taipei. By Christmas it was old news to me and I figured no one would be interested.

You never know. The throwaway joke you post just might be the thing that picks someone up at the end of a long hard day, and maybe because of that they decide things aren’t so bad after all, and one butterfly effect later you have yourself a changed destiny. And they always remember that username and smile when they see that post from _________.

Chaos theory, and all that.

As to the OP: Not a chance. I post sporadically as it is, because RL is a beast sometimes. Cost me a real bad lynching too. It was… inconvenient.

As for me, I don’t know anyone on the boards personally but I’d notice if a fair amount of posters stopped posting, too many to name individually. Conversation here is great, once you get through that initiation. I still can’t go near a goat any more without thinking of… that… night…

Only if someone starts a thread about the band VNV Nation. Otherwise, no one would notice, I suppose.

I noticed when you were gone, it took a while, but I bump an old thread of yours to see where you were and because I was hoping for an update.

Telperien, I am one of the ones that would miss you, I have you filed away under fellow Tolkien poster. The extra clever one with poems and humorous posts.

BTW: It wasn’t a surprise, but I miss FinnAgain. I hope he comes out of his self-imposed hiatus soon.

Sunspace: I would miss in the Green/Global Warming threads, Speaking of which, if I was reading/posting into a Global Warming thread and **Jshore ** didn’t show up, I would get worried. That man is a genius and a true expert.

Winston Smith, I would eventual miss you, it might take a few weeks, but I would notice.

fachverwirrt,

Risha, I would miss you, but honestly it would take a while.
I did notice **Caridwen ** is missing, hopefully she is doing okay, but I find myself in a lot of threads with her. Anyone know if she is okay?

I know I would miss WhyNot, again mostly for green threads, but I would miss her presence.

There is a large list of posters that I would notice after a while if they went missing. The quickest (that I have not already mentioned) would be QtM, Silenus, LOUNE, BrainGlutton, Elendil’s Heir, Marley23 & Hal Briston. The list is a lot larger after that.

Jim

Around twice a year I decide to start exercising again and post a question about it on the dope. If I end up starting another one of these threads, then I would notice if **ultrafilter **doesn’t reply.

Actually, I did notice that you subscribed after you said you wouldn’t. I considered bringing up the old threads you left but decided against it. So while I might not notice if you left (since you told us you were going to), I did notice you come back. And I do take note of your posts.

As for missing people, I miss PRR and Oakminster.

As for being missed, I doubt it. But is that a bad thing? Sometimes I think that some of the people that are missed are pretty controversial and I try not to be controversial. So not being missed may not be a bad thing unless the controversy surrounding me is so bad that people don’t miss me because they wanted me gone. But if that’s the case, I might stay just to spite them.

Nah, nobody would notice if I dropped out.

Cheers,
G

Heck, even I don’t notice when I haven’t posted in awhile.

I spend most of my time in Cafe Society. I read many threads but usually have nothing to offer that hasn’t already been posted so I just lurk. I also have no regular scheduled time on the board. I just pop in occasionally. During the blizzard back in February I did go on quite the posting spree while stuck in the house for two days.

I’ve never really opened up enough here to give any hint of my personality, so there’s really nothing that people would attach to my username to make them miss me. Sometimes I will have some sort of drama or issues that I think about posting (a huge and heartbreaking one recently involving my son) for opinions or just some support, however I usually talk myself down from it thinking that my drama or crisis will probably not be of much interest to anyone else.

Oh, and as this post suggests, I have a bad habit of rambling on in response to what could have been a simple yes or no question, yet another reason I refrain much of the time, so as not to annoy others

Only if I’d been posting a lot on specific topics and then suddenly stopped participating in that kind of thread. It’s not like anyone would go into mourning, though. Someone else would come along shortly to take my place.

Nope.

No.

I let my account lapse for about four months a few years ago. A couple of people noticed, but they were people that I knew offline.

I doubt it. Unless I was in the middle of a Mafia game.

 I’ve just gotten online with a new computer after four months of cadging time on borrowed machines, but I’ve been checking my webmail fairly regularly. I must apologise if I missed you: by the end of last week, I had 2500 messages in one vast glob to wade through. I just rechecked and found your message of April 19th! :smack: I’ll reply by email.

Nope.

Sometimes I think I am the only one that can read the posts I do make

But, I am not prolific, controversial, or a big contributor, so there’s no reason anyone would notice my absence.

No. I don’t believe I’d be missed at all. I don’t post that much, and rarely on anything of controversy or of note.
