I’ve occasionally gone a few weeks without posting for various reasons and, as far as I can tell, nobody noticed my absense.
Not a chance. I keep below the radar in most cases, having taken some years to rack up the same number of posts that many do in a few months.
If anyone would wonder where I was, it might be someone who shares one of my pet topics such as Portuguese, Brazil, or Naval nuclear power. I’m sure everyone is familiar with “the usual suspects” with their own pet topics.
That’s what I was going to say- see I don’t even need to post at all!
I think my absence would be noticed. Just slightly below the level that people would notice if their preferred sub-brand of toothpaste wasn’t at the store (“Hmm…did they sell out, or did they stop making it or something? Eh…I’ll just get the generic stuff. It’s just as good—hey, a sale on floss! I use floss!”).
In short, I invite anyone to tell me if they’d miss my posts more than they’d miss budget dental floss. Even a little.
I stopped posting for six months recently, intending to be gone for good. I didn’t make a big deal of it because I think that goodbye and hello threads are silly. I got some e-mails about it and found some posts about it when I came back. So, some people noticed.
As a side note, posting (and reading) breaks are good for some longtimers.

I’d bet real money that if I stopped posting, not one single doper would ever notice.
I’d also bet that whynot couldn’t name one personal thing about me (see post #60).
People hardly ever notice when I do post, so no.

Nope, I can’t. Nor can I about several of the other posters who posted after me. I do, however, like your username. 
I might eventually be missed in the MMP. Or in the cat threads. Other than that, no one notices me.
Much to my surprise, my 2-months absence after only 2 months on the board was noticed. I guess volume does matter. Thanks. You know who you are!

Don’t worry, I’m neither surprised nor disappointed. 
I’m insignificant. My postings have only recently been expanded to MPSIMS, otherwise I’m a strict GQ Cafe Society type of guy. Probably when I am done with my dissertation I will go back to my lurking ways.
