The vibrator thread over in IMHO somehow brought to mind the mysterious inflatable marital aid I used to see advertised in Mom’s Walter Drake and Harriet Carter catalogs when I was an impressionable 11-year-old.
At that age, I sure as heck couldn’t figure out what role it might have played in sex. And now that I’m a grown-up, I still can’t figure out how one used the thing. I kind of remember it as being vaguely martini-glass shaped – an inverted triangle with the apex squared off and attached to a rectangular extension. I’m guessing the triangular part was positioned to lift the woman’s hips, and the extension kept the triangular part from moving around, because the woman was lying on it???
I found a blog that quotes this from the Compat-a-Pillow instruction manual:
“A simple text dealing with the problems and solutions confronting newlyweds and older couples featuring the new – COMPAT-A-PILLOW … an inflatable marital cushion with an advanced design, adjustable elevation and 3-way resiliency for greater love and marital joy.”
The repressed '50s version of this, I guess (totally NSFW!):
