I think Homer isn’t fundamentally selfish and narcisstic, and he doesn’t double down on his mistakes. For that matter, he realizes he’s made a mistake and tries to make it right.
He’s a bumbler and often a fool, but he’s not incapable of remorse or concern for others.
Trump, on the other hand, seems to be incapable of admitting that he’s ever made a mistake, seems to take the Trump-centric approach on everything, and generally seems to be all-around reprehensible.
Agreed – Homer is a dummy but has a big heart. Trump is probably closer to Mr. Burns (glad to see that “release the hounds!” made it into the quote list – that should be Trump’s motto). I think for sheer idiocy + evil combined, maybe he’s closest to Boris Badenov, plus Melania would make a good stand-in for Boris’ evil accomplice Natasha Nogoodnik (aka Natasha Fatale), the former Miss Transylvania.
When Homer has to beg Burns for his job back, realizing he can’t afford another kid (Maggie) working his dream job at the bowling alley. Burns made sure as sign reading “Don’t forget, you’re here forever” was installed at his station. Then we see that all the missing baby pictures of Maggie are posted over the sign making it read, “Do it for her”.
Trump doing something for his daughter? Nope. Homer is a saint in comparison.
I would also add, Homer Simpson sometimes says things like
like he did it Home Sweet Home- Diddily- Dum- Doodily (1995). So I was kind of thinking of that too. Homer is multifaceted, like I guess President Trump is too.
He buys Lisa a pony. Works night shift at Kwike Mart to barely cover the costs. Yeah, Trump would do the same. Loves night shifts at convenience stores.
