But the thing is, the “plumber” scene (as well as the “pizza delivery guy” scene and others of its ilk) were staples of old-school porn shorts, and later when the move was made to “feature film” porn, they were incorporated as scenes and side-plots in many, but not all.

I find that in more modern settings it’s the most “respectable” and most “amateur” productions that have plots-- “I just need a place to stay for a few days, but I don’t have any money, can we make an arrangement for rent?” is common in the latter, as is the old standby of “grade inflation the sexy way” student/teacher porn, but not a lot of repairmen. For the former, Penthouse and Hustler at least try to make marginal plots, but especially in the case of Hustler it’s like JRDelirious says and it’s mostly done when they make films that are essentially collections of shorts with a unifying theme for the ladies.
actually I believe they filmed it in a renn village scene, I actually dont remember a serta mattress … I remember a round topped chest, a pallet on the ground in a tent, a pallet on the floor in a mill loft, a rope bed with a sack type mattress … though the large rope bed could be mistaken for a modern mattress. You have to remember in porn in the 70s everyone was a lot hairier than today–consequently you’d get more hair clogs and have to call the plumber more often.

I remember a movie like that, it was called Fresh Meat: A Ghost Story. It was weird and somewhat inventive for a porn movie, almost like an Oliver Stone movie such as Natural Born Killers. An older, funny, porn called “Debbie Duz Dishes” had a scene with Josephine the Plumber (from a popular series of commercials at the time) visiting.
A lot of the plot in the mid-70s came from the success of Deep Throat (actually a bunch of shorts spliced together with a small framing plot). In those days having a plot made the movies more acceptable and drew a larger audience, until home video made acceptability unimportant again. Me, I find unplotted porn boring (no pun intended ) and have pretty much given up on it.
