“Troll” is the right word. Forget the childish language and whether it’s effective or not. When did it become okay, even a badge of honor, for someone to take delight in pissing other people off? Sometimes It can’t be helped, but is angering liberals really an end in itself now? I remember a time when that sort of behavior was referred to as “being a jerk”.

The fact that she reused a phrase that Robert Gibbs awkwardly used back in September indicates that the woman is either a Machiavellian play-maker or else a well-handled asset for the conservatives. Either way, because she has caused others to pay attention to her utterances, she has increased her value to the GOP. The woman is almost bullet-proof at this point, and anyone who is expecting her to step into ‘doo-doo’ (to mirror the referenced infantilism) is whistling in the dark.
Face it. This is the new politic. Marshall McLuhan predicted that the medium would become the message. Now we are left with what our shared medium (the Internet and 24-hour cable news) has made of our shared reality. We made this monster. We must now tame it.

I do have a warning.
If you attack Palin directly, she will be spawned into several imitators and any chance for progressive action in the USA will be utterly swamped by the media blitz.
Assuming the body politic is intelligent and thoughtful enough to actually react in a sane and rational manner is absurd. They never have and I doubt they ever will. The GOP has the upper hand ever after the amazingly destructive debacle of the 2000-2008 administration’s actions, inactions, betrayals, misdirections and just-plain-lies.
This speaks more to the citizenry’s inability to discern reality from fantasy than it does to any over-arching grand strategy. Tell people that they are the paragons of virtue, and then threaten them with an enemy who is willing to kill them because of their virtues, and they will be willing to do anything to avoid being disrupted in their lives. Even if that means that they are disrupted in their lives by the very folks who they trust to protect them from the enemy.
