Does using a wrong product, void your right to try to get a refund for that product?

I read online that StubHub often considers ticket-buyers to no longer have a valid claim if they use a wrong or mis-advertised ticket (for instance, you bought an expensive seat behind home plate, but the ticket StubHub gives you is instead a nosebleed far away, a much cheaper kind.) Apparently, using the wrong ticket that was given to you, to enter a stadium, counts as “acceptance of goods as sold” and thus makes any subsequent complaint void.

But I haven’t heard of airlines doing this. I’m sure that if you pay for a first-class seat, but the airline instead puts you in economy, you can still complain and try to get a half-refund after the flight has ended.

Are sports events an exception?

Stubhub is pretty evil this way. They screwed me over years ago at Fenway and I haven’t used them since.

A lot of companies use the tactic of lying about the law to try to intimidate people away from holding them accountable. And it often works. That doesn’t mean that’s actually the law.
