Where I work, there’s a 20-foot artificial tree in the lobby, and some of the ladies have wreaths or bows on their office doors, with maybe a bit of garland. The program director went out and got stockings to hang by the control room with care, and gave each of us something nice, and a card.
At my desk, I have a branch in a vase, with the business end of a turntable’s tonearm hanging off it by a thread… it’s a cartridge in a bare tree.
That was a hit with the old guys. The younger folks have never owned a turntable; some have never even seen one, so the humor was a bit lost on them.
We have the ugliest christmas tree I have ever seen. If had been up to me there’d be no tree. But if there had to be a tree it would be something small for a desk, something subtle and tasteful.
Our receptionist/office manager/secretary/Girl Friday (she single-handedly runs the office) always does the decorating, herself. It’s quite tasteful, too. The office is in an old house, so it has nice features such as a fireplace (with mantelpiece) and a flight of stairs. She sets out differenct pieces - reindeer, Xmas trees, wreaths, candles - in different spots, and winds a lighted garland through the staircase banister. She also decorates a tree (real) for the front of the office. It’s nice.
In our department (there’s 10 of us) we have 2 sets of Christmas lights strung from one end of the office to the other along the top of our 4 foot high cubicles. Every morning and evening I have to crawl under my desk on my creaky-almost-50-year-old hands and knees to plug/unplug them from the sockets. I’m not really complaining though, it does look pretty festive. We have a little 3 foot high tree with fiber optics.
I haven’t used my turntable in 10 years. I like your tree, didn’t I read about a cartridge in a bare tree in another thread yesterday?
Hmm, I don’t know. Maybe. I don’t remember seeing that thread, but I didn’t come up with the idea. I saw it in a stereo store back in the '70s, at the cash register. I’ve also seen a cartoon in a stereo magazine with the same setup. But a lot of other people haven’t seen it, which is why I was sure it would get some laughs.
