Dog Days: An August MMP

Money for nuthin’, kicks for free.

Thanks, metal mouse!

More in the TMI Dept: Finished with prep for tonight, feel like crap – which is surprising, because of course I have never been less full of it!

Not looking forward to the final stretch in the morning, but it’s almost done.

I’ve never loved my bidet more.

So between an apprent nationwide Spectrum outage, and my phone refusing to 4G, I was without Interwebs for 8 hours, and had to spend the evening like some sort of medievalmid 20th Century peasant.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

You have to know how to properly spurn the affections of widowers with 6 children, and a crazy wife locked in the attic.

Morning, mumpers! It’s 20c/68f with a predicted high of 29c/84f and mostly sunny. Weather app says “If this weather was a pro wrestler, its wrestling name would be Norman and its signature move would be called fucking Cheerios breath”. OK…make of that what you will!

nellie spare cat currently has the imaginative name of “Socks” because he’s got two little white socks on his front legs and two full white socks on the back. I’m sure he will object to that and provide us with a more suitable name later. There are pics on farcebook, I’ll have to log in here from my phone and see if I can post one.

red we have a catflap that’s always open. We’ve tried coding it to the cats’ microchips but it was very difficult to do, and only marginally successful with opening it when they got close. We’ve had battery-operated ones before also, but neither cat wears a collar and Shadow has probably lost more collars than he’s kept. We lock the catflap when we’re away and the cats are in the cattery so after tomorrow morning, Socks is going to have to find another food source until we’re home on Sunday.

hippy love the Malevolent House tales! Ours definitely believes in give and take, although more on the taking than the giving.

shoe you’re welcome to a battalion of Sri Lankan ninja spiders complete with extra-sharp pointy sticks, I’m sure doggio will ensure they arrive in the right place! I think you did exactly the right thing hanging up on your mum, if she won’t be reasonable and won’t respect boundaries, she needs to go and sit on the naughty step and think seriously about what she did.

I am at irk, it is irksome. Fortunately it’s my Friday and we’re off to sunny Chepstow for a mini music festival thing at the castle tomorrow. We have an airbnb cottage about 5 minutes walk from the castle, and we’re booked in until Sunday. We might leave on Saturday though, have to rescue the cats from the moggery by midday on Sunday and we’re going to be quite tight for time.

If I may dare to be serious (forgive me, Mumpers!!) is it a separate fixture or an addendum to the toilet? My spousal unit has talked about getting one, but we have no space for another item in the bathroom. I need to research the add-ons.

Thanks for an early-morning giggle at the mental image!

Today isn’t supposed to be as hot as yesterday, and much rainage is promised this afternoon, along with an areal flood advisory. Not sure yet if I’ll bring Roxy here after school or stay at their house with the kids - Daughter’s in the last-few-days rush of picking her former boss’ brain before taking over. Suzanne’s last day is Firday, and last night she didn’t get home till after 8 as they were updating the student handbook. If it’s going to be another late day, I’ll keep them here.

This morning, I decided to try Coke Zero instead of Diet Coke. I don’t much like it, but I’ve got 2 6-packs of the stuff. Dammit. Why didn’t I just buy one?? Oh well. I can choke it down eventually. Other than that, just another day in paradise (OMG, I can’t believe #45 said that to his minions - why is he copying me???) Anyway, ONWARD!!

Happy Wednesday!!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 72 Amurrkin out and mostly cloudy (partly moony?) with a predicted high of 90 and rain/tstorms/apocalypse this afternoon. We shall see. Today we shall procure provisions. I also need to make a Sam’s run. That should take care of any need to be responsible. The rest of the day shall be spent in sloth and general overall uselessness. Sup shall be leftovers from yestiddy with fartfest to follow.

bright tree on the plus side it will be over today. Then, if they give you the pics of your colon, you can share them with all your loved ones.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas, alack and oh so much bother, I suppose I must needs purtify and don attire appropriate to be out and about amongst the great unwashed. Life can be so troublesome!

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

It’s an addendum. I was fixing to replace the terlet anyway, so I made sure to get one that would accept the bidet accessory to fit. They’re both Toto units and I splashed out a bit (so to speak) on the bidet. It doesn’t quite darn my socks, but pretty near. Not one regret. Feel free to PM if you want more TMI details. (I have my limits for public TMI.)

My colon shall be as a haughty rock star: “No-pics-kthnx!”

It’s presently a lovely 59F/15C here with predicted highs of 79F/26C. I’m up way too early thanks to the aforementioned colon and its current unreliability due to chemical inputs. I only trust it when I’m awake.

Caffinating with a pleasant cup of tea, but that’s no substitute for the daily grind. Or some food, for that matter. The tum wonders nervously if this lack of solid inputs will become a regular occurrence.

More later; I’m too tired to focus. Hope you all have a wonderful Hump Day!

Morning all. Got the newspaper indoors about 7am, which was a good thing because it’s raining heavily right now and while it should stop, more rain is expected around noontime, so probably no soccer today. Will get my swimmin’ in one way or another. Only getting to 84F today, so maybe it’ll start to cool down some.

I think that is going to be my Xmas present to myself for 2023. Had a fancy one once while in a hotel in China and thought it was wonderful. Of course, what do I then do with the extra 50+ rolls of terlet paper??

boo fae, I had to look up Chepstow, because places I’ve never heard of interest me–looks like a very nice place, and hey, it has a castle! Enjoy the music.

OK, onward into the day. Raining harder now. Take care all.

TP someone who ticked you off??

Just got the Tobester down for a nap. I’d taken him downstairs, and crawling around the basement tired him out real good! He only slurped down 2oz of formula before the zzzzzzz took over. Usually he takes 6-8oz, so I have most of a bottle ready for tomorrow. Plus he hardly ate any supper last night, so I’ll be warming his leftovers for lunch today. Easy-peasy!

Quiet time for at least an hour… I hope. I should empty the dishwasher. Yeah, I’ll get to it eventually…

Good morning everyone.

It’s currently a very comfortable 61 degrees with an expected high of 74 and cloudy to partly cloudy skies. We might even see a rain shower around 9:00 am. But fear not, by tomorrow it starts climbing into the 80s, and next week we will see mid-90s. Ugh. I’m ready for fall.

I have one of the bidet kits and I have yet to install it. I may do so. My son got it for us and claims he’ll never go back to a toilet without one.

Good luck with the procedure today, bright tree.

I think today I’ll plot out a hiking trail for tomorrow or Friday. I’m looking for a moderate out-and-back hike; I’m in no shape for anything strenous.

Other than some general tidying, chillage shall ensue. I haven’t really gotten much of anything big done on this vacation and I’m oddly okay with that. This last year (since my last vacation) has been so jam-packed with getting big things done and being on time crunches that I chose not to force myself into that on vacation. I will probably have some regrets about that, but I needed a rest. I don’t like myself when I start becoming impatient with issues.

I was up at 2:00 am today (stupid insomnia), but I went back to bed at 3:30 and stayed there until 7:30 which is positively luxurious and criminal for me.

Congrats on the tooth poking through, FCM. May the rest of the Tobster’s teething be easy.

Time for another cup of coffee and some yogurt. I hope you all have a great day!

Platform temperature: < hits 110 >
dogbutler’s brain: “I need beer.”
dogbutler’s body: “I need Gatorade.”
dogbutler’s brain: “Why not both?”
Narrarator: "And so from dogbutler’s fevered imagination was born the horror of the Gatorade shandy.*

Because you’re nice? Dammit!

Good luck on the scoping, bright tree!

.* I didn’t **

** [OJ]But if I did[/OJ *** ], I’d recommend a Belgian whit, and orange Gatorade

Cat Country Resort (Everson, WA) posted this on Facebook:

This little guy is looking for a new home. It’s not working to move to Hawaii with his dad. Can anyone take him? Sweet, well behaved, friendly, great cat. He’s been in our care since spring and we’ve had nothing but fun (and zero trouble) with him. Thanks for considering

The Spousal Unit said, ‘Do you want a third cat?’ I said, ‘I wouldn’t mind, but I don’t know if the girls would like it.’

What a sweetie! I hope he finds a new forever home.

He looks very clever and dignified. I hope he finds his new forever home quickly.

GG came pre-loaded with excellent posture so looks very regal. Until you notice that he’s been staring at a dot of sun moving over the wall for the last hour and a half. It entertained Mom to watch me get impatient with GG for messing with my thread and bringing out my secret weapon to deal with the problem. The Bright Red Dot of Joy still breaks his brain for a couple of hours.

After much coaxing, my babby pomegranate is starting to stand straight again. If it makes it through its first year, nothing will be able to hurt it!

I usually pick up our surplus produce boxes at our community center, but recently learned that the town over does the same thing AND while the first cars have to sit in the sun, the ones at the middle are in the shade. As the only requirement to qualify for a box is to live in the 86333 zip code, I’ve started going to the one in the next town instead. (86333 covers a LOT of area.)

Today we got a couple of whole chickens along with potatoes, carrots and onions. I can foresee a roasted chicken in the near future.

Lunch with my friend today, it has been seven days since my last close contact with a Covid carrier and I tested plague free this morning so I’m going feel safe to bring my project inside the building and show off my plaid.

I used to quite like cherry coke zero and vanilla coke zero (don’t like plain cola in general though) but I suspect they’ve secretly changed the formula lately as they are both more sweet and less cherryish and vanillaish these days. Or else my taste buds are acting weird again. Is that your objection? Sweetness?

On the subject of bidets: do they have fans to dry you off after the ‘shower’, or do you still have to do some paperwork to get yourself dry? Anybody? Bueler?

Our most recent heat wave has abated somewhat. It’s currently 79f, supposedly heading for 91f. We’re promised another heat wave for next week though. Our portable A/C units have been running 24/7 these last few days. Poor things. We’re still trying to find someone to install mini-splits in our little house. Contractors over here are pretty independent.

Gotta go. Our new basement door is here and we have to figure out a place to put it until it gets installed.

Today is the hated laundry day. It’s a communal laundry, with 5 washers and 5 dryers. One washer has been busted for a couple of weeks and one of the dryers squeals like a stuck pig, so I predict failure soon. It’s one of the few drawbacks to living here, as it requires multiple trips up and down, plus there are those few people who don’t clean the fucking kleenex out of their pockets or who can’t be arsed to clean out the lint filter on the dryer.

Got a package of wild rice soup in the cupboard. That’s dinner, dadgummit.

Have fun Boo Fae!

Take care Doggio. It sounds like you’re heading straight for heat stroke. Do they do anything to help you guys out?

Chefguy Are you able to put a washer/dryer in your unit?

How about links to the units? I’m also thinking about something like this. Without getting too TMI, I have IBS. A bidet might be easier on my tushie.

Good luck today. You’ve done the hard part.

Donate to a homeless shelter…

I thought I already had a permanent seat and an engraved mug. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Odds are, they’d probably be fine. My experience is that opposite sex cats integrate fairly easily.

Who provides these boxes? Can anyone get them? I wonder if California does anything similar.

I’ve been trying a few days of bed rest to see if I can save my CSF patch. My spinal fluid is leaking again and I am not a happy camper. Brain sag is no fun, y’all.

Beamer starts school tomorrow, and Beamette starts school on Friday. It’s her first time going to school full time since she got her traumatic brain injuries. Well, she tried briefly after the TBIs, but it didn’t work out. We’ve found a good medical team and treatment that seems to be working. She’s trying first at a private school that will be very flexible if she needs virtual days. If that goes well, she will probably move to something more affordable.
She also wants to start working, but one thing at a time.

We’ve found a tenant for this house who’s willing to pay to cover the mortgage, taxes and insurance. They want to move in by mid-September, which is much sooner than we had planned. I am stressed. Beyond stressed. I don’t know where that is, but I am that place. The tenant part is good news.

There’s some other stuff going on, but maybe I’ll get into that later. It’s not great.

Take care and Happy Wednesday everyone!

Not long after I posted this morning thunder started rumbling. It went on for a good bit and we received a nice soaking rain, with a little bit of hail and some flashes of lightning. The air smells nice outside.

I have found a couple of easy to moderate trails for a nice hike on Friday. I haven’t quite decided on which one, but they are both really doable. I just need to talk the husband into going now, but if I don’t, I’m just going on my own. I need to hit REI for some war-grade bug repellent though because reports on every trail state the skeeters are BAD and MAD. I need to find the right kind to spray on the clothing too. I think I might also look at a camel backpack because I know I’m going to need more water than my current bottle holds, and the current bottle is a little heavy because it’s made of metal.

Other than that, I have the rest of the gear; it’s just been a while since I’ve used it. I will need to double-check the ten essentials too because I might need my compass too and I can’t remember seeing it the last time I looked. I don’t really think I’m going to run into any serious issues, but one must always be prepared.

Sunny, I am sorry to read about the leakage. I really hope that things fall into place for all of you STAT so that your stress levels can fall. Sending my best.

Nope. It would involve major construction to accommodate the equipment.

This is @peedin procedure day, right? Did she designate anyone as a contact? Has anyone heard how she is doing?

I’m a lapsed Catholic, and totally heard this in my head in the droning tones of a Confession …

"Bless me, Father, for I had lunch with my friend today. It has been seven days since my last Confession and any close contact with Covid carriers… "

I’m hoping no one is going to add pictures of a partial moon. That might be a bit too much TMI.

Wasn’t someone mentioning that they were down to their last roll? Send it there. But you’ve got 16 months to work on it.

Do not google this. You might start thinking this is a good idea and will succumb to the desire to try it.

The plaid is definitely worth showing off.

:astonished: I did communal laundry for 4 years of college and 5 years of marriage. No fun at all.

I hope you’re able to get back to just stressed, or even not stressed, soon.

I think someone complained about the bells on the sheep. The farmers came and removed the bells today. Rather disappointing - I find them melodic, similar to wind chimes.

Work is weird. Everybody in my team will be on vacation next week, except me. And then I go on vacation. So we’re just sorting out what needs to be done, but I won’t be doing any of it until October.

Weather’s still too dry, so running the misting hose again. Neighbor is watering the sidewalk, which I think 1) doesn’t help and 2) wastes water. At least I’m not paying for their wasted water.

Need to see if I can buy tickets for Cirque du Soleil. Don’t know why their website is always so annoying.

Happy hump day!
