Dog tag haiku... Or what haiku have you written?

Ok… Palve and I got bored… So we went to our local army surplus store and had him make a dog tag of haiku… About 2 bucks for it. It was even tougher to write because we had a limit of 15 characters including spaces on each line.

So here it is:
DOG TAG HAIKU
17 SYLLABLES ON
A COLLAR OF TIN

I put it on my dog.

You can see a photo of the tag at the bottom of the “more pics” page of my site.

What haiku have you written?

Here’s one I wrote in my Japanese tea class a couple years ago.

“Under the old oak
the grasses cannot grow tall
as in the backyard.”

See how meaningful it is? It could change your life.

I’ve got a collection of ultrasound images of Michaela in utero (five in all), and I wrote a haiku for each one of them. I won’t share them here, because they really require the pictures to have the intended impact, but I tied them together with the following:

Shadows on a screen
Translated into snapshots.
Scrapbook of your growth.

BTW, whenever I read haiku, I always sing it to myself to the tune of Moonlight in Vermont. Try it! It’s fun!

An aroused dachshund
Contemplates a flight of stairs
The top so far away.

(flees)

This is my first and last attempt at haiku in Japanese (or any other language). I think it’s terrible, I meant it more or less as a parody, but it managed to get some raves.

Eda ni kake
Omoki sakura ya
Yuki no you

And now a pitiful attempt at translating my own work:

On the branches hanging
The heavy spring blossoms
Are like snow

Haiku I can’t write
This is just really not me
My Haiku not good.

:: joins the fleeing hordes ::

(but hey if I am not renitely mistaken its at least 5/7/5)
