Dollhouse (Whedon) advice

Just about to start watching this. Should I start with the unaired pilot? Or save it for later? Thanks!

Save it for later. A lot of the footage gets re-used in other episodes, and it’ll just be weird.

Don’t watch it at all. Most of the scenes from the pilot are worked in to other episodes. The unaired pilot is just really shitty and there’s definitely a reason why it was cut up and used as flashbacks instead of airing on its own.

Skip it. It’s not like Firefly, where they didn’t air the pilot. They made a new pilot instead and you should watch that.

I agree. Just watch the episodes in order.

And remember, it gets better. Dollhouse was Whedon’s weakest show at the beginning. They had trouble getting it going, but the 2nd season was great!

But then it ended in a pretty unsatisfying way.

Yes and no. Yes, it gave me all the ingredients I wanted, in all the right proportions to each other - but instead of being entree-sized it was a petite bouchee.

Thanks folks, that’s all I needed to know. Starting with Ep 1 right now.

Actually, I kind of liked it. At least I didn’t see it coming.

Let’s not spoil it for anyone, though.

Well I’m happy to leave you to it if you want to discuss.

Alternatively I could give my first impressions as I watch (like the Buffy thread). I enjoyed the first ep and am looking forward to the rest (although after this I’ll have no more Joss to watch . . .).

What do you think?

The final episode was completely redundant. They should have ended it with the next-to-last one; Echo’s line at the end was just the perfect note.

As someone who watched the first season, but missed the second, can someone give me a spoiler box of what happened?

Wikipedia has a pretty good rundown of the whole second season.

Save the unaired pilot for later, even as late as after you’ve seen the entire series. The new pilot is a replacement for it, not a sequel, and a good chunk of it’s plotlines were reused in later episodes.

However, do watch the unaired season one finale (Epitaph 1) at the end of season 1.

As I was watching all other episodes off the air, I left finding and watching Epitaph 1 until just before Epitaph 2, and I actually found that worked reasonably well.
