G’morning - up and caffeinating. Well, at least in progress.
{{{{{{Rigs}}}}}} hope today is a better day.
At least it is hump day, and FIRDAY is in sight. Yay! Everyone have a good day.
I do have my limits. For example, we need to replace all the 1970s-vintage, uninsulated windows with new double-pane, easy to maintain, modern versions. I know we (spousal unit and I) have the ability to do this, as we replaced the kitchen window 5 years ago when this remodel began. However, to quote the MMP theme of the week: Don Juanna!! If we hire pros, they’ll get all 7 done in one day. If we do it ourselves, it’ll be a window or two a weekend. Sometimes the best tool for the job is a checkbook.
**FCD **took a small sledge hammer to the floor last night and started breaking up the tiles before he realized that it’s stupid for a man with a healing wrist to be hammering anything! However, I’m pretty sure SIL and I can get this done in a couple of hours at most. Then, weather permitting, we can haul the debris to the dump tomorrow and pick up the big sheets of stuff needed to finish the job. Here’s hoping.
But for now, I’ll let the lad sleep in while I surf. And caffeinate. Happy Wednesday!
Blurf.
A long, hard day of thumb-twiddling awaits me in Cubeville. I hate the time between projects. Next week is covered, because I will be out of the office for a training class.
Mornin’.
I renewed my passport this morning. Exciting, no?
I have a sneaking suspicion that my brush with bureaucracy will be the highlight of my day… because I’ve got pretty much zip, zilch and nada to do at work. Sigh. I guess I’ll be in the corner, twiddling my thumbs alongside Vundy.
Thanks, moooooom, I’m going to try it soon.

pie, sorta like this (\✹)(✹/)?
Long day for me. Here early to open up the phones so the receptionist could go to the dentist and then the departmental staff meeting will take up the lunch hour. No break today.
Tupug
Morning. FCM, you’re going to need a vacation from your vacation! You’ve mentioned knitting a lot recently, but not playing with clay. Are you taking a hiatus from pottery for a while?
I finished my 3rd Noro striped scarf over the weekend. I looooooooove knitting them because it’s just so much fun to watch the colors develop. But they’re almost too Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat for me to want to wear them. I gave one away, but now I have 2 of my own. And I really want to knit more, but I don’t know what to do with the silly striped scarves.
I have 4 things running and two more are waiting for input from others. So at some point I’m going to have 6 things going… and nothing to do while I’m waiting for them all to complete. Love this kind of day.
I was just thinking the same thing. We could make it a poll --------- almost a perfect topic for IMHO!
I can’t help it -------- I’m a growing boy with active glands.
OK ------- I’m aged and a hormone with feet. But I ain’t dead yet!
Riggs ------- prayers and all kinds of other good vibes at you.
Taxi--Um, I’ll take one in blues and grays? They look lovely. Let me know your price structure.
I don’t have the patience to knit. I did enjoy what little I did, but counting the stitches and all the complicated patterns just intimidated me. Then again, just plain purl or knit stitch (don’t recall which I was doing) is boring. Too bad there seems to be no middle ground. Maybe someday…
I am dog tired today. This 2 job thing is starting to wear me down. I need to go to the grocery store and then I’m going to have a mental health day: reading a book and maybe a nap. Lots of tea. Very low everything. Let’s hope it works.
We ripped out one of our bathrooms as well a few years back. Cutting the tub out with some kind of bandsaw/(chainsaw?) was cool, and I was the one taking the sledge hammer to the horrid tile floor. It went well, until my foot went clean through the space between the joists and I almost dropped into the basement… It saved us a great deal of money to [del]destroy[/del] remove the old stuff. Wonderful anger therapy as well.
Tis spitting cold, raw rain here and is about 40. Perfect day to do nothing. I’m reading Ian Rankin’s series of murder mysteries. They’re pretty mean streets for me, but I like the detective. I am also rereading Alexander McCall Smith’s Scotland novels as a counterpoint. If all the info I had was these two authors, I’d say that Edinburgh was schizophrenic.
Oh yeah… that’s the other problem. The yarn costs $9-12/skein and it takes 4 skeins. So $40-48 for materials. Yeah, kind of expensive for a scarf, which is why I haven’t just started churning these out for the scarf tree at church where they collect scarves, hats, and mittens for people in need in our area. But if you’re still interested, I’d be happy to make one for the cost of materials - I just want an excuse to keep making them. Here are the Silk Garden colors (the $12 ones) and here are the Kureyon colors. I’m linking to Webs because I may stop there this weekend while I’m home so it’d be easy for me to pick up Noro there. But I could also order online somewhere if anyone knows of a cheaper source.
It would seem that there are halter tops and then there are halter tops!
QT, I am quite sure that you weren’t wearing the latter type!
Busy week, blargle!
those yarns are gorgeous! I love multicolored items. My favorite is the Kureyon # 180 - I also like all the ones that are mostly blue and/or purple. But don’t make one for me - it’s out of my price range right now - maybe next year?
**taxi **- The reason I’m knitting like crazy is to make all these helmet liners for the Marines headed to Afghanistan. I intend to give 8 to the woman at work who asked for some, and after that, I’m done with helmet liners for a while. I’m also finishing an afghan I’ve been working on for my daughter - it’s a pretty complicated cable pattern and it’s been several months since I started. The temps are brisk enough that I need to finish it.
Plus my studio is still a wreck. And it won’t get cleaned up till I finish this bathroom fiasco…
Speaking of which, the floor is nekkid. I need to remove a bunch of old nails so we can put new luaun down, and I need to measure so I know for sure how much drywall we need - 4 sheets, I think. I also need to remove a little more of the existing drywall to facilitate the installation of the new stuff.
SIL and I took a break for Bad Chinese. Now I want a nap. But instead, I’ll just take a little break then get back to work. **FCD **and I are going to the dump this afternoon, then to Lowe’s for stuff. I’m hoping we can get the tub out tonight, too. If not, tomorrow, I’ll be sanding and finishing the vanity.
But I really want a nap… zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
<ulp> Heh. Well, that’s too rich for my blood as well.
I’m back from the food store. I tried to use my $15 off coupon, but didn’t make it to the amount of $190, and wasn’t about to find $40 more to buy just to save $15.
I need to do something about my life or go to a movie or something. Ideas?
So much grrr for the Death Star Phone Company. They have finally deigned to allow the Big River Online Retailer to stick two phones in a box and ship them to me. Unless someone wanders off with the box and sets it down on top of the microwave in the break room, we should finally have the phones we should have had about three weeks ago.
Rains are largely stopped. Initial reports from the Faire site are that a lot of stuff has been pummeled and some stuff is gone. Apparently, the artichoke booth was one of the focal points to receive wind-blown stuff and there’s a pile of battered tents and scraps of burlap there.
Lots of cleanup awaits…
Zombieland is great! Any movie with people who look like my coworkers (zombies) AND an amusement park can’t be all that bad. Its a little like an American version of Shuan of the Dead.
All righty! Except for the tub, the bathroomis stripped. And once **FCD **gets home, we should be able to get the tub out. Yay! The trailer is hooked up and ready for the dump. Just gotta make sure we have $10.
Dishwasher is loaded. SIL is doing laundry, so I can’t wash my towels - I’ll get them tomorrow. I suppose I could get the vanity base out of the bedroom so I can sand it and get ready to put the polyeurethane on - nah, save that till tomorrow. I can sand in the garage then do the poly in the empty bathroom. Sounds like a plan to me. Yay!
Which means now I can assume the knit position for an hour or so till my sweetie gets home from work. See ya!
I am SO COLD. This is pretty unusual for me.
That’s not a halter top, it’s a mankini…
Yeah, that’s the problem. Until someone comes up with a cheap yarn that looks that good with colors that vibrant, that’s what it is. Agreed on the
FCM, I still haven’t learned how to do anything round or I’d join you on making helmet liners. For now it’s all scarves and baby blankets for me. But those are good reasons to be knitting instead of playing with clay!
