Donald Trump and Women: An Interesting Video

Thank you, Gov Christie.

We all agree that statement is true.

Someone should check if he visited Plato’s Retreat

I hear she’s a lesbian too!

Or in other words, you have no evidence HRC is a felon AND you have no intention of looking for something credible to support that contention.

So I guess that means nothing you say is worth paying attention to. Got it.

Yeah, I’m ashamed of that too.

Schmoyoho, aka Autotune The News, aaka The Gregory Brothers just made a new song for the Trump-Pence campaign.

Promise?

There is some dramatic irony in the way that this of all things, is what has smashed Trump’s support. I really don’t think it’s about ‘white women’ or ‘sex talk’ as such - it is damaging because it does what Trump is usually so good at doing - it evokes a vivid mental image. You remember those lies he’s told about videos he’s seen. Just by talking about it, he’s created false memories in his supporter’s minds, so some time later, they remember seeing that Iran cash drop or Muslims celebrating 9/11, themselves.

But now, his gift for language has come back and bitten him on the ass. Now every time we see his face, we’re going to be visualising an old orange man reaching out to grope any woman unlucky enough to be near him. That’s an image nobody wants in their brain.

I see what you did there.

Side point, I’ve never liked Sean Hannity, he always came across as a shill to me on the radio, but he’s kicked it into high gear now. I find him one of the most dishonest people in the US now when it comes to politics and ideas.

I was listening to an interview of the Dilbert creator on Dave Rubins show, and he talked about Trump being a master of manipulation, part of it was isolating something about a person that people already suspect, then highlighting it and making it stick to them. Nobody thought of Bush as some erratic figure, he came across as more measured and dull and policy focused, and Trump flipped the narrative by labeling those attributes “low energy”

This would not have worked had Trump chosen a phrase of ridicule that was completely unrelated to the expectations and perceptions people had about a person. But when there is that perception, like say, Hillary being dishonest, a term like crooked Hillary or “Lying Ted” (that one REALLY stuck with Ted Cruz smarmy tone and face) then it lingers in the minds of people.

That is EXACTLY what happened with this event. People already had a perception of Trump being a bit of a womanizer, a flirt, a skirt chaser, and this tape just reinforced peoples perceptions and as such, magnified the impact.

I thought he was angry & almost gritting his teeth the whole time.
If he’s angry, how is he sorry? confused

Is anyone else troubled by the tone of the Rep’s who are now disavowing Trump? I mean, they’re saying stuff like “he’s degraded our wives, mothers, daughters”. Does that seem a tiny bit patronizing to anyone else? I guess it was ok to degrade that poor Miss Whatever-it-was that Donald called a fat pig, because she wasn’t anyone’s wife or mother? Or weren’t those Rep’s listening that day? Wierd.

But she was some kind of Mexican or something.

How many Trump supporters have somebody with a name like Alicia Machado in their family? But Nancy O’Dell, well she might as well live next door. He got a free pass as long as he was going after someone they could portray as “other.”

As for the wives and mothers thing, that’s definitely rankled. A friend of a friend posted this on facebook today:

Sadly, as evidenced already on my Facebook feed, the true supporters of Mr. Trump are already dismissing this. There are two usual lines of dismissal:

a) Bill Clinton did far worse.

b) Bad language isn’t a big deal.

But the interesting news is that there ARE people on my feed who are having second thoughts about voting for Mr. Trump. These are people who are Republican, but who aren’t truly supporters of Mr. Trump. They simply were going to vote for him because he’s the Republican nominee, and that’s what was making their mind up for them. If any significant subset of those people decide they cannot vote for him in light of this tape, then that’s probably enough to ensure Mr. Trump loses.

As for a), the idea that what Bill Clinton may have done is relevant to voting for Hillary Clinton is difficult to understand from a logical standpoint. As for b), I’ve pointed out on FB that, if you think what was bad about the taped comments was the language used, you’ve missed the point entirely. Or are simply ignoring it. :dubious:

There’s an old adage in comedy:

“It stops being funny when it starts being you.”

Or, in this case, your own mother or wife. See, here’s the thing: Trump’s other “attacks” on women (quotation marks used to differentiate between physical and verbal assaults, not to suggest that some attacks are better than others) have all been about specific women: Rosie, Machado, Hillary, and so on. This time, he’s speaking in general terms (he doesn’t mention Nancy O’dell by name). And that’s the part that the Right has problems with: by not focusing on one person in the comments he made, he could be talking about their own wives/mothers/daughters/sisters/etc.

I think that’s an important distinction.

Ideally, yes, men would think in these terms. But the human capacity for empathy isn’t actually as strong as we might like, and unfortunately, “my mother/my sister/my daughter” is as close to home as many people can get for things like this. Be grateful that they’re making at least that step, and take comfort that it’s probably still close enough to the speakers to get them outraged and taking action against it.

Trump can’t actually win the election, but he could still contest it, and that’s what I see as the more realistic danger here. In order to contest it, though, I would assume that he needs to be close enough to make that somewhat plausible. I use the word ‘assume’ because I still don’t know how many alt-right politicians there are and to what extremes they are willing to go. But they’re less likely to fight the good fight if they’re defending a candidate that is viewed to be toxic by independent voters.

But let’s not delude ourselves: Donald Trump’s perversion aside, there is still the sentiment among many people that ‘their America’ is dying from the inside out. That sentiment is going to remain whether Donald wins, loses by a single state, or loses in a landslide. Most of the defectors over the past 48 hours are viewed as political insiders – that won’t in any way dent Trump’s support with those who are insecure and angry at the fact that America is less white. He’s going to get at least 30-35 percent of that vote – bank on it. Trump knows that. And even some of his critics know that.

The only ones who bolted are those who fear their constituents. McCain, for instance, sees his state turning deep purple and this bombshell scares the hell out of him. Ryan lives in a state that is fiscally and socially conservative but also educated. Chaffetz lives in Mormon country, which never really liked Trump to begin with. They’re just saving their own asses. They are not in a position to hurt Trump.

But the longer Trump stays in the race, the more that comes out, the more this hurts the party. The independents will turn away from the GOP and leave the republican diehards to fight among themselves.
