Donald Trump's 2016 General Election Campaign

I always thought the cartoon was a reference to Augie Donatelli.

Absolutely correct. Facts have become increasingly meaningless to Republican supporters. The facts are an embarrassment to them, because they simply don’t support their policies or points of view.

So what do they do?

Reject the facts, demonize intellectual pursuits, and embrace ignorance. Trump is merely the nadir of this effect. He does not just reject the facts, he makes up his own, which are in direct opposition to reality. And his fans love it. The modern Republican Party is heading into the dumpster of irrelevance, and any political person who supports Mr. Donald Trump is diving into the refuse willingly.

Are Trump supporters really down to just mocking how a leader speaks?

Because we can do it with Donald, too.

Once you notice it, you can’t help but be bothered by it.

But you don’t hear that from anybody else. You don’t hear it from anybody else.

Of course, it means fuck-all regarding his qualifications as President. But there you go.

Hey! Jimmy Two-Times is gonna be president, everybody! Now we can get Pete the Killer (Sally Balls’ brother) to be Secretary of Defense, Anthony Stabile can be Attorney General, and Frankie the Wop can be Vice President. Or maybe it should be Mo Black’s brother, Fat Andy. I always liked dat guy.

Just to be clear.

The Obama teleprompter this is ruled out of bounds and a distraction for this thread. It’s not germane.

We need to find a slot for Johnny Big Red-Assed Baboon Sittin’ on His Head Pizarelli.

The goddamned Germans got nothing to do with it!

(reference, in case this gets me a warning or something)

Donald Trump is running Black and Latino leaders out of the RNC.

This does not bode well for the GOP’s future prospects of reaching out to black and Latino voters as the 2012 autopsy report said it urgently needs to do.

Donald Trump says all the countries in Europe that accepted Syrian refugees are going to totally collapse:

 Can even Donald Trump be such a petty asshole as that?!

Michael the Savage Weiner? Him? Rabies with a microphone.

Hmm. If Germany goes belly-up in an Islamic horrorshow and Deutsche Bank goes with it, and Trump owes them a shit ton of money…does he get to keep it?

Now, now, now; il Doofus is simply insuring that the “autopsy report” label complies with truth-in-advertising standards.

That’s like asking “can an embezzler be as dishonest as that?” or “can a pyramid-scheme salesman be such a sleaze as that?” or “can a televangelist be as willing to take poor old people’s last dollar as that?”

Yes. They can.

Trump delegate says Americans need tanks, assault weapons and bombs because they will have to overthrow the government and kill the President, Congress and the Supreme Court:

There are actual Dopers who think so too.

I heard what an NPR reporter said about the endorsement just made by Paul Ryan, it means that there is now no daylight between the Republican party and Trump. Since Ryan said that he found out that Trump is supporting the values of the Republican party and has decided to embrace him, it follows then that the party has decided to embrace bigotry.

Well, the first part is partly correct. That was one of the rationales of the Founding Fathers, but it was also for the literal purpose of ensuring that the people were able to defend themselves in case of foreign invasion. The rest is pure fiction.

(Unless the Donald is elected, of course.)

Which means they’ll turn out white bigots to vote Pub in the greatest numbers ever, but drive away the whole minority vote and most of the women. Quite a Hail Mary play.

Without relying entirely on a standing professional army. That was the whole point of the 2nd Amendment – to defend liberty, not by making it possible for the people to revolt against their own government, but by preserving a militia-based defense system and forestalling the need for a large standing army, which the FFs feared as a threat to liberty. They had experiences with the Redcoats, and at this period royal armies were regularly used as instruments of internal rule in Europe wherever necessary. If the people could “keep and bear arms,” they could simply bring them along whenever the militia was called up.

But, it was an unfounded fear. In all major wars America has won (or lost) since the Revolution, we relied mainly on the regular Army swelled with wartime recruits, militias/National Guards providing only reinforcements. When the war ended, the Army was again downsized (at least, that’s how it happened at the end of every war before WWII; the Cold War changed things). And, except during Reconstruction, the Army has never been used as an instrument of domestic rule and no Administration has ever seriously considered it. “A well-regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free people . . .” But, it isn’t.

But that would mean the Founders were gasp WRONG!
