Don't Bump This Thread!

It’s still raining. If the temp were lower we’d be up to HERE with snow.

Bump.

Wow! God shoveled your driveway.

And bump.

Too bumpin’ wet to be outside this morning.

Nice day today. Might get out for a walk later.

Bump.

More bumpin’ rain here.

Just a bump. I did get out today, actually.

Bumpin’ rainy again.

Yes, the bumpin’ animals are lining up two by two.

I am off to measure the height of a stop sign. Bump.

Okay, I have to ask. Just why do you need to measure the height of a stop sign?

Bump.

Sounds like an entry to the “finish this joke” thread, doesn’t it?

Bump.

[Are you sure you want to know?]

Citizen complaint: people are running this stop sign because it’s too high, it’s at least 10 feet from the ground - - - also people are running this stop sign because tree branches hang down and they can’t see the sign until they’re too close - - - also people are running this stop sign because the STOP legend on the street isn’t made with reflective paint.

Also, when I pulled up the intersection on Google Earth (bless Google Earth!), there’s a no parking sign on the same streetlight pole that the stop sign is on. It’s not forbidden to have a second sign on the same pole as a stop sign, but it’s not recommended. The no parking sign may need to be relocated.

[Are you sorry you asked yet?]

Also, signs near sidewalks are supposed to be positioned so that the bottoms are at least 7 feet from the ground. Now, these particular signs are on a streetlight that’s in a parkway strip between the curb and the sidewalk, so that rule of thumb does not apply, but people get used to the rule and apply it where it’s not needed.

In addition, traffic signs are generally bigger than they look to drivers-by. The no parking sign is probably 2 feet high. And the smallest stop signs are 30 inches tall. So if the bottom of the no parking sign is 7 feet from the ground, the center of the stop sign is probably 10 feet from the ground. But you can’t expect the average citizen to estimate height, so it needs to be measured. And I need to see if the branches need to be trimmed.

I’ve been distracted by emails and phone calls and haven’t measured the stop sign yet. I’m going to go check the files first, though, because the no parking sign is on a corner and it has a double arrow on it, which does not look right - especially since the other side of the street is in the County; so unless we have some coop agreement to extend the no parking zone, it stops at that corner.

Anyway, as odd as it sounds, this citizen is probably going to get all three things they requested and a relocation of the no parking sign as well.

Edited to add: bump.

Not sorry I asked at all, Yllaria. Fascinating story!

Bump.

The bottom of the stop sign is 9 feet, 9 inches from the ground. That means that the center is 11 feet from the ground.

According to the subdivision files, the stop sign is supposed to be on its own pole, closer to the curb and closer to the intersection. Not only that, the current sign wasn’t centered on the streetlight pole, it was shifted away from the street.

The no parking zone was part of the subdivision plans, but the signs on the ends of the zone were supposed to be single arrows --> <-- , not double arrows. And the western end of the zone did not start at a streetlight. So two no parking signs need to be changed and one of them needs a new pole.

The street legend is faded and needs to be repainted. I’m going to hold off on asking for the trees to be trimmed, though. Once the stop sign is relocated, the trees shouldn’t be a problem. Time to write the service request.

Bump.

An early Halloween bump in the night.

Interesting, Yllaria. Thanks again for the explanation.

Bump.

Bumpin’ lake-effect snow today!

Bumpin’ snow!

The only good thing about snow this year is that fewer people have to go out and drive in it.

Bump.

True. Maybe the roads will be safer.
