Don't Bump This Thread!

A “the snow is back” bump. Sigh.

We had fog Saturday. Not quite as magical or irritating as snow.

Bump.

I went out for a walk earlier today. The neighbourhood was very quiet. Not because it wasn’t as busy as it normally would be on a Sunday afternoon, but because of the snow, which is an excellent sound dampener. That’s another good thing about it–it looks pretty, and it damps down noise.

Shovelling it, on the other hand …

Bump.

A “rain-to-snow” day here.

Bump.

Ye Olde English Bumpe.

Yes, there should be a no parking sign there - - and a few other places. Bump.

I’ve never seen this thread before. Interesting.

Thanks for giving the thread a bump, @Euphonious_Polemic ! Come back and bump it again any time–we’ve all been having fun with it.

And a bump of my own.

A “the sunsets are starting to happen later” bump.

Warm winds blowing through, melting the snow.

Bump.

A cloudy day bump.

Wednesday bump.

“The building was on fire, and it wasn’t my fault.”

Bump.

A 7:43 p.m. bump.

Another snowfall last night. Only December, and I’m already tired of winter.

Bump.

Wow.

You’ll never guess how I got here.

I thought to myself, “why don’t I just head over to Thread Games and try my hand at the topmost thread in the category?”

I was thinking it would be something like trivia dominoes.

Little did I know what I was getting myself into.

Like with most thread games, read the top post for rules. OK, seems pretty self-explanatory. But this thread seems awfully long for a thread game that, to win, one must not post to. Perhaps there was something more to this.

So I started reading. And reading. And reading.

I read song parodies, decontextualized movie quotes, revisions of epic poems, weather reports, cat statuses, queries about posters’ health, welcomes when they returned, reworded instrumentals, tidbits of history (though less about the pandemic than I would have expected - what, were you worried it would get moved to QZ or something?), more puns than Attilla had Huns, and over and over again, 4,974 times that posters lost.

That’s right, lost. Such a simple rule! One way to win this thread game, and 4974 blatant failures to do so. I don’t think anyone realized how this thread game is meant to be played.

Well, I play to win, and I’m setting down my manifesto here. Just watch - I’ve got this thread game down pat. No way am I gonna lose this…

Darn.

Bump.

Welcome, SunUp. As you’ve learned, there’s often a thin line between winning and losing.

Bump.

A welcome bump for SunUp! Great essay–I particularly liked “more puns than Attila had Huns.”

Confession time. I haven’t read the whole thread.

Bump.

I just went back and read the first thousand posts. We were much more creative back then.
