Help. I desperately need to know I am not alone on this one. Here’s the scenario: Wednesday night my husband and I are blissfully watching Junkyard Wars, discussing (translate: he’s explaining stuff to his nitwit wife) how things will/won’t work or whether they will/won’t work.
As we’re watching, I make a random comment about one of the team members, “I think he’s cute.”
My husband fixes me with this look of total and complete stupefaction. “You’re kidding me.”
Hey, I couldn’t help it. There was something about this guy that I found…oddly attractive. I tried to explain…he’s smart, clever, unique-looking…
All I get is a head shake. My husband thinks I’m a loony. He’s looking at me like “Gee honey, I think it’s neat that you tell me when you find someone attractive, but can’t you at least have the decency not to pick a guy on Junkyard Wars? It’s like saying that Red Green has nice bone structure.”
I know I’m a goofball, but did I deserve that look?
Though I haven’t seen (or heard of) Junkyard Wars, Kiefer Sutherland makes my elbows sweat, so I do know the look you’re talking about. I don’t think it’s ever deserved, who can explain an attraction ?

You may be reading more into your husband’s look than was actually there. He’s probably looking at the guy and seeing the Geek from Outer Space, or something similar.
I remember working with a lady who though Nicholas Cage was the hottest thing since magma. When she first mentioned this during a water-cooler bull session, I stood there with my mouth agape. I couldn’t BELIEVE someone would actively lust after ol’ Nick. Takes all kinds, I guess.
Y’know, on re-reading my OP, I should explain something. I think I may have presented an unfair image of the teams on Junkyard Wars. They’re all fine looking people.
My husband’s confusion over my attraction to one of the team mates had a great deal to do with the fact that the guy was mostly covered with grime and oil. I believe the old hubby was shocked that I could think someone that filthy was ‘cute.’
Never meant anything as a bash on anyone…except the Red Green line. That was pretty bad…maybe I should apologize to Red…sigh

Yeah, I think you’re right. He did look at me like the guy was a geek. I even watched the show the second time around to see if I was hallucinating or something…but I thought the guy was a cutie.
Sim, very very true. The hubby and I joke about this kind of thing all the time. In fact, the other day when my father in-law mentioned that he’d give all the women in his life a complete make-over if he had the money (it was meant very sweetly, I can assure you), my husband said he was all for that.
I looked at him, straight-faced, and said that no make-over was going to make me look any more like Michelle Pfiefer than I do right now. He thought that was hilarious.

Mauvaise, Red is a…somebody help me out here…Canadian? comedian. Has his own show out here on PBS. I’m pretty sure he’s not just here. At any rate, he’s…well, he’s Red Green. There’s no describing him. Sorry.
Maybe you got that look because it was not the one HE thought was cute. I once got into an argument with a girlfriend because I said Tonya Harding had a bad girl appeal and I would flirt with her before I flirted with Nancy Kerrigan. She thought Nancy Kerrigan was cute and wanted to look more like her.

xizor, I don’t think he was thinking any of them were cute. But I’m sure he wasn’t expecting me to chime in with my little comment.
I can remember the Nancy Kerrigan/Tonya Harding thing…most of the guys I knew were with you. Although they thought Nancy was a looker, she wasn’t as approachable. Personally, I don’t think girls with lead pipes are very approachable, but it’s all in perspective, init?

Actually, it wasn’t one of the bikers. And, upon further thought, I might have an idea as to why it did surprise my husband. I usually have it really bad for Brits, Scots or those lovely Irish men…but this particular guy was from the US. (I’m a push over for a great accent…of just about any kind)
Red Green is a Canadian fellow with a TV show which is drop-in club for guys. He gives out lots of help on guy stuff, namely handyman hints and spousal relationship advice.
Canadian men take his word as gospel. He is a national icon. Canadian men dress the way Red Green dresses, speak the way Red Green speaks, and most importantly, think the way Red Green thinks.
In one of the more ironic moments in the annals of television, PBS in the US picked up the Red Green show thinking that it was a comedy.
Oh, and for you folks who are into subversion or conspiracy, take a look at who puts out The Women’s Networks handperson show “Anything I Can Do.” Yup, you guessed it. Red Green.
But I’m sure he wasn’t expecting me to chime in with my little comment.
