I’ve heard about some people who have a bad skin reaction if they are in contact with the foam for more than a couple of minutes. You think you are making time with somebody because they seem to be blushing, but it is just a rash.
Again I ask, not rhetorically, what part of my disclaimer addendum (written before Kearse or any other Texan responded) that
makes it sound like I’m pitting every man, woman, child, cow, bull and Chihuahua in the entire state? Again- I’m from Alabama, the Taliban’s western HQ, I KNOW that the south and southwest are not all group-think.
Re: Foam Parties: I’ve never actually been to one (I don’t look that good in a bathing suit), but they’re actually far more popular now among straight college kids (which is actually how I learned about them- the Baptist Student Union was protesting a foam party at a college I used to work at not because it would lead to dancing so much as the things began at gay clubs- it went on anyway and was a huge success).
I’ve been so utterly disgusted by this I’ve been meaning to write on it for several days in several different threads, but it’s too depressing and words fail me. It’s not only bigoted in the vilest way, considering the dire need for foster parents here, it’s just so fucking stupid.
Of course I could resort to ad hominem attacks as you have done, but I’ll take the high road here in the Pit.
Yes, I live in Texas. Yes, I am disgusted at what legislation gets passed.
I don’t see how your supposition (ass u me) that I cannot do both.
Yet somehow I’m the tool. Nice.
This is what Kearse was writing about when Mockingbird decided to get involved. I know that you are angered as we all should be Sampiro, and I didn’t mean to imply that you were lumping all Texans together (especially after your disclaimer). But that is the point that started this. I really think that everyone in this thread is on the same side of the issue, but as someone who lives in Texas (10 years now) I get frustrated at the cheapshots so many people take at the state in ignorance. And I have to admit that I had some reservations about Texas when I moved here, but most of them have been unfounded. For the most part Texans are just like anybody else - they want to make a living and be safe and happy.
That would be such a great line of products. You should design them and create a website to sell them on. People could put them on sashes and wear them for Gay Pride Parades.
They might be more popular as enameled pins (the kind you get at the Olympics, or special occasions at Disneyland) than embroidered cloth patches.
You’re kidding, right? Man, why can’t I get any coed parties like that?
No joke. Barcelona is awesome.
“So my sister is gay – and you can tell my mother was like, ‘Two of them? I have really given to this cause!’ She thinks she should get a special jacket from PFLAG.” - Suzanne Westenhoefer
Ooh…this sounds lovely–can I come? Any room for a hetero female–I can dress up like Barbra Streisand!
As for witing off Texas-I do it on a regualr basis and my brother lives there! Don’t take it personally–it’s a big place. Mebbe y’all can wrassle up a decent politician in your new gerrmandered districts, eh?
I don’t know about your state but most textbooks are editted in California. Now ask yourself if you truly want textbooks Cali edition textbooks!!
Texas is a huge consumer of textbooks and there exists a committee, board, group, of some sort (I don’t remember the name) who select what books will be purchased based on their interpretation of the content. Textbook publishers have been known to alter the content in various ways in order to make the sale.
My search skills aren’t really up to the task during a time period that I might be exptected to pick up the phone at any moment, but would somebody be kind enough to post links to some threads that discuss the influence exerted by the state of Texas on the nation’s textbook supply? Kearse appears to be in need of some education.
BTW, Kearse IANAD, but you might could use some liberal applications of artificial skin-thickeners if you’re going to hang around in the BBQ Pit.
At least our textbooks don’t try to pass Creationism off as science.
While I won’t argue the influnce Texas has in the school textbook realm, because the state does wield great influence. However, it is wrong to suggest that Texas is to blame when school districts in other states start buying the same text books.
The Christian right realized a long time ago that winning seats on school boards was an easy way for them to spread their anti-evolution crap, amongst other the other crap they love to spread. Why do you think the field of “scientific creationism” exists?
Don’t blame Texas when people in other states vote in somebody who likes the concept of Jesus Horses.
I’m guessing this might be something that the right wing has thought up in order to distract the gay lobby from the Texas gay marriage ban which is also upcoming for a vote. I don’t really think the Republicans want to ban gay foster parents. I do think they want to make sure the anti gay marriage bill sails throught the legislature. I think that the gay foster parents clause will be traded out in conference committee but the gay marriage ban will pass overwhelmingly.
Because Texas is so homophobic they don’t even allow gable roofs.
Why would they need the subterfuge in the first place? It’s Texas. Is there any doubt at all that the marriage ban will pass?
I agree that the law is terrible, and that everyone who is really upset by this should write to the Texas legislature to express their disapproval in a rational and coherent way. I understand some of you are venting, but all the anger expressed toward the state of Texas, republicans, and religious people seems unnecessary. It also poisons the debate, and makes it harder to achieve the equality I’m sure most people want.
Look fucktard, when the fucking democratically elected government of Texas implements a bigoted policy, it is perfectly appropriate to pit the entire collective entity known as “Texas.”
When the legal forces in that state take legal action to remove children from gay guardians, do you know what the legal documents will say? “State of Texas vs Whoever”
Therefore, I am angry at the State of Texas.
