i meant scroll left on the map and thats where oxford circus is. duh!
The Porterhouse at Covent Garden is very good too (Maiden Lane).
It been ages since I’ve been to the pubs Paul mentioned and it sounds like a lot of fun, but sadly I’m not back in London til 23 Sept so won’t be joining you. Have a pint for me - after over 3 months in Oklahoma, home of 3.2 beer, I’m gasping for a decent pint!
So are we all agreed then? The Ship on Wardour Street at 2:00 PM on Sunday, the 21st? I presume it’s not necessary to make a reservation. I don’t know if you guys all know each other, but you’re going to have to describe yourselves so I can recognize you. I should be easy to recognize. I’m 4’11", red-haired, and wear glasses.
cool.
Count me in.
My last post before leaving on vacation. I’ll see you at the Ship.
Bummer - that’s the day I go to uni. Have a drink for me.
Wendall, a word to the wise. No one takes the train from Oxford to London. There are at least two coach services leaving every 12 minutes – it’s really the best and only way to do that trip. Excellent service and dirt cheap.
I prefer the ‘Oxford Tube’, quite literally everyone knows it and uses it:

Safe journey!
Thanks, London_Calling, I’ll do that. I’m in Oxford now at an Internet cafe. None of you have described yourselves, so I’m going to have to rely on you to recognize me at the Ship. (And it’s Wendell. I’m sorry, but it drives me nuts that people can’t spell my name right.)
No worries, Wendy.
I’ll be in Dublin this weekend, (squeeeeeee!), but have a good time!
I’ll toast ya a pint of the Black Stuff.
Just for the record: the London Open House is this weekend, if you want to do any sightseeing.
You can find a pic of me in various states of drunkeness at Tir’s Londope site. Six foot five, long hair, beer, that’s me. I’m also cross posting this at NADS to see if we can get more people interested.
I’ve had a look in the latest Good Beer Guide, and according to it The Ship is closed on Sundays! So what is the 2nd choice?
Hmm, I’ve also had a look here and it says it’s open Sunday. Can someone stop in over the next couple days and check it out?
kferr - I’d say the Good Beer Guide is going to be more accurate than pubs.com.
i was in the ship last saturday. theres a notice on the wall saying they are now open on sundays 12-10.30pm.
fear not my fellow powerboozers, the Paul has done his research well…
bugger. and there i was about to heroically sacrifice a lunchtime doing a bit of reconaissance.
perhaps things have changed in the last 5 days garius. you may have to go there anyway, just to make sure.
by the way, how many dopers are going on sunday?
