There are several Dopers of Indian descent as well (Angua and Anaamika come to mind), though I think we have had surprisingly-few Dopers from India itself.

I’m an Indian of Indian descent, born and raised in India, but…

But I’m British, not Russian. I haven’t noticed any ethnically Russian Dopers.

Charlie Tan (changed from another name, as I recall, but I don’t recall what), is from Skane – i.e., the southern tip of Sweden that was Danish for centuries, and still has its own unique culture – “Swedish but…” the way a Texan, Alaskan, or Hawaiian will strongly emphasize his/her own Americanness but also point out the differences from “whitebread heartland American.”

I’m also from Skåne, and I have to say you’re wildly over-emphasizing this. We’re Swedish, not but anything. Sure, there are cultural differences but every single region in the country has cultural differences from the other regions. Some people take it more seriously than others - there are a handful of separatist nutters around - but in general terms it really doesn’t matter much.
