I figure we can just do the food planning here in the thread, everybody can just post what they’re bringing. torie, has anyone told you what they will be bringing yet? If so, can you just post whatever you’ve got so far, and we can take it from there?
I’ll bring the MREs. Everyone will have to bring his own “Rock or Something”.
I’ll still bring the guac! Anything else we’re short on just let me know. I can definitely bring more than that too.
I looked back in the posts and didn’t find any info on where to book a room for those of us who are coming from out of town, or maybe I just got lazy and that’s why I didn’t find it. Anyways, does anyone have that info? If so would you be so kind as to post it, or give me a link?
Thanks so much!

Hello. Our name is GeoBill. We are bringing fruit and veggie trays with dip. We will have a Coleman gas stove and small tabletop grill in tow. We will supply cans of soda, ice and a cooler for the boat, and trash bags for the Bomb Shelter and boat.
Archergal is bringing pimiento cheese sammiches, but not Robert. Possibly homemade ice cream?
I volunteer Bruce Daddy for the non-edible 2 Liter bottles of Coke, Sprite, and an alternative flavor of your choosing (total 8 bottles?) for the Bomb Shelter. Unless there is something else non-edible you’d prefer.
OhFace is bringing oh-so-fresh guacamole. Can you bring chips with which to dip also?
NinetyWt has the nanner pudding covered, and her hubby will work the grill.
swampbear has the brats, cheese crisps, and party music on CD.
Quasimodem covers the charcoal and other grill accessories, to include a VERY good wire brush.
earthpuppy is pleased to supply the Boom Box and bald peanuts.
Bear_Nenno has threatened to bring MREs, but maybe we can talk him down off that cliff. Maybe he can bring decent paper plates, cups, plastic utensils and paper towels? They travel nicely.
Things maybe needed, but not specified:
-Ice and cooler(s).
-We discussed hamburg patties, who’s getting them again?
-Buns would go well with the burgers, as well as condiments. Just sayin.
-Footballs, frisbees, horseshoes, lawndarts and other distractions.
-Anybody who has an inflatable raft may consider bringing it. Especially if it can be towed behind the boat (hint, hint).
-SUNSCREEN - bring your own. It’s August.
-Bathing suits and towels if you even THINK about getting in the lake. Again, BYO.
-Some sort of other side dish, pasta salad, cole slaw, potato salad, etc…
As a reminder, Intoxicants (i.e. beer) are not allowed in the park. Just so you know ahead of time if we have any scofflaws here who are gonna bring some anyway, keep it subtle.
What did I miss?
Sauron and I are in. We will be bringing one of our brood of children but he is housebroken and behaves.
I can bring condiments for burgers and such or whatever else…just let me know.
Just checking in to say I’m still coming and bringing brats, cheese crisps and disco music. I’ll also have a cooler cause of the brats. Gotta keep em cold. It’ll be no biggie for me to snag a couple bags of ice. Y’all just let me know.
I have a brand new Coleman stove I can bring too, if needed, as well as a cooler that can hold ice or whatever. Does anybody drink homemade lemonade? I can make/bring that too.
And remind me of the date – it’s the 28th/29th, yes?
Sunday, August 29th, 2pm, Red Top Mountain State Park, Picnic Shelter #7. I have a top-o-the-page summary written up at home for when this hits the next page. I learned from the Master, Billdo.
My brother and I are staying here. It’s 15 minutes from the park and around the corner from a Publix. Very convenient, only $48 + tax for one room with 2 doubles.
Which implies that we are in fact coming. Because we are. 8.5 hours? Child’s play – we have a 20 hour drive we’ll be doing this coming Thursday and the Sunday after next. We’re planning on rolling into Cartersville ~ 2 - 5p, depending on when we manage to actually leave here, and then depart around 7p or 8p the following day. I’ll have my cell on me, and I’ll be sure to e-mail it to the locals (Quasi and Geo/Bill, because y’all know where things are and can tell me what’s going on Saturday night.
As far as fooding, I can hit the Publix on the way over and get something Atkins-friendly for Dan and me, and some cookies / crackers / chips for the rest of y’all.
Looks like GeoBill beat me to it.
Nevermind. What shall I bring?

But…but…I’ve been planning on getting rid of this gallon of Wild Turkey that’s been gathering dust on the chester drawers! Also a quart jar of Macon County, Alabama’s finest moonshine. Oh, well.
Put me down as a definate maybe. If I am able to make it, I’ll get whatever is still needed as per last minute instructions. Right at the moment the prospect for my attendance doesn’t look too promising.
I will also be bringing a 7-Layer Mexican dip and chips, a cooler and ice, possibly some chicken kabobs, and a very discreatly camoulflaged adult beverage du jour.
[nitpick]it’s da Bomb Shelter [/nitpick]
If there’s a yert/cabin party going on Fri night, I’ll try to be there…sounds like fun…
For the listings, and updates. I tried to get to it last night from work, but got busy in the ER and had to sleep today, so it was a pleasant surprise to see it had already been handled so beautifully by y’all.
If anyone needs specific assistance with anything, feel free to e-mail me and I will answer as best I can.
Those of you coming in Friday and/or Saturday, let me know what you would like to do any of those nights. I had suggested a trivia/sports bar in nearby Hiram called Buffalo Wild Wings, but that isn’t set in stone by any means.
We can get together at the park or we can meet wherever.
Suggestions?
Thanks
Quasi
Hey, I am just sayin keep it SUBTLE. Likr when the drinking age went to 21, I just kept it under the radar, although the Chicago Reader, the Straight Dope Message Board, and the Almighty Cecil hisself will have no part in any shenanigans, well, hey, THEY ain’t invited! I hope the tide turns and we see you there.
We have a Buffalo Wild Wings here in Lithonia, not a bad place!
So how many bags of charcoal ya reckon I need to buy?
Also the really good stiff wire brush: Something like you’d scrape the side of a house with (new of course) okay? Or is there one made especially for sport-barbecuing?
I will also bring a gallon of gasoline to start the coals burning.

Kidding! I’m kidding, Y’all! I’ll bring some charcoal starter fluid, too.
Anything else cooking-related I need to bring? I was gonna bring the aluminum pans for the nanner pudding contest, but haven’t heard anything else from y’all. What size pans, and what size pans for the meats.
(Can y’all tell I don’t cook out a lot?)
Get back to me on anything else y’all need!
Quasi
