One bag of charcoal should more than cover it. As for meat pans, grocery stores usually have them, oh, maybe 24" x 16" x 3" or 4" deep?
As more folks on the list check in (HINT, HINT) to either cancel or confirm (as will undoubtedly happen), we can adjust who is bringing the fixin’s that last week before the party.
**Flander ** and I are all booked for Saturday night, so if anyone gets together on Saturday too let us know. We’ll be there Sunday with lots of guac and chips, and some beverages.
I will be at Buffalo Wild Wings in Hiram Saturday night at 7pm.
That’s where I usually go to play trivia that night anyway, so y’all are welcome to join me. Seating shouldn’t be a problem since there will just be a few of us (I think) in town that night, but I recommend a 7 o’clock arrival so as to get a good table in view of the monitors that will be displaying the trivia questions.
(I think just letting y’all know where I’m gonna be will be easier than trying to organize according to suggestions, but if anyone has any other suggestions, feel free! It doesn’t have to be BWW. I just don’t know of anything in Cartersville that’s comparable)
I am also available on Friday night for those brave souls coming to see us backwoods “rednecks” here in Paulding/Bartow Counties for the whole weekend. I’ll join y’all at the park (if you’ll have me!;)) and we can go out to eat or eat at the Lodge restaurant at the park.
In other words, I am at y’all’s disposal whatever you want to do, and I am looking forward to welcoming and getting to know you!
If I may make a suggestion to those of you not familiar with our area, and if you do want to joing me at BWW, do a Mapquest from Cartersville to Hiram, and then e-mail me and I’ll get you the rest of the way there. The shopping center in Hiram isn’t that hard to find.
Big Papa and I are working furiously to get our house finished before the big weekend. As far as the bbq implements, we will prolly bring a lot of the tools & stuff that we use - so don’t fret too much about that part. As far as food, I’m thinking a pasta salad for Sunday - and we are bringing deer steak I believe (last I heard from the Chef). I’m up for preparing any stuff in the cabin if we need to.
We will be arriving Friday afternoon - sometime between 4 and 6. I think we’ll be up for some company; such as visiting, playing dominoes, sipping some drinks, guitar strumming, etc. We’re not to big on clubs, so may not go to BWW on Saturday. If we don’t party TOO hard on Friday nite we’ll be good to go another round on Saturday.
Any thoughts as to the weather? I’m assuming it’ll be cooler there than here, esp. at nite.
oh, so sad you can’t make it sharky…maybe next time.
Quasi, for the nanner puddin’, you should get the small square aluminum pans (some of them come with clear plastic covers-which would be ideal for keeping the flyin’ critters out), I think they designate them as “brownie pans.” Who’s entering the contest?
NinetyWt, can’t remember now if I mentioned this earlier, but just e-mail me (address in my profile) when it gets closer and we’ll exchange cell phone numbers so that we can coordinate once you get here. I’m up for a gathering Fri and/or Sat night if it looks like that will happen.
earthpuppy: Check on the pans! Thanks, got 'em covered!
I have a bottle of Champagne for some “newly-weds” in this thread, and I would just love to deliver it personally Friday night! (Know your cabin yet, NinetyWt :D?)
This is going to be a *GREAT TIME *!
Can’t wait to see y’all (again and for the first time)!
Ok kids, I have gone thru my recipe box (dang, I need a bigger box !)
Here’s what it looks like:
Friday nite:
small nosh, BYOB, plus musical instruments & games:
I’m bringing my dominoes.
I’ll make a crabmeat dip and mexican dip. Chips and store-bought dip at your discretion. Oh, and Quasi: Big Papa begs you to bring some 8-yr old Charter instead of champagne. I’m just sayin’.
Saturday nite:
bigger nosh, BYOB:
I’ll make Mississippi Sin (a to-die-for cheese dip), aritichoke dip, BLT dip, Pizza Dip. Some Buffalo Wings or other heavy Hors’ D’Ouvres would be welcome.
Sunday:
I’ll make (hang on):
Tommie Simpson’s Special Banana Puddin
Bourbon-Baked Beans
Ruby’s Pasta Salad
Mellow’s Hashbrown Casserole
and
Patti’s Blueberry Stuff
then
Big Papa will be grillin the deer steaks we’re bringing, plus whatever he can get his hot lil’ hands on.
I’m gonna call the park to see if they know what cabin we’ll be in. Otherwise, look for the SDMB banner. We should be arriving Friday pm between 4 and 6.
Quasi, I’ll e-mail you that Wednesday with cell phone numbers.
This sounds like it’s going to be a sick trip. I’ll definitely have to remember to bring my guitar. I don’t know too many songs, but I can jam with the best of them. OK maybe not the BEST, but if I had to, I could play my way out of a paper bag.
Well I am sorry to say I will not be able to attend this dopefest. I have been looking forward to it all summer too. My brother in law is having a suprise birthday party in New Orleans for my little sister’s 40th ( they live in Lousiville, KY). She thinks it is a business trip. I have been see-sawing on what to do Dopefest or birthday and I am afraid New Orleans wins this time.
Sorry for the delay, but I’m in for Sunday. I’ll bring my guitar and a big bowl of fresh corn salsa (this stuff is good!). Unfortunately, my wife will not be joining me - she has some sort of work-related retreat that weekend.
I was hoping to be able to get in on some of the Friday or Saturday activities, but BIL and the Older Nephew will be in town from D.C. that weekend, so I may not be able to do much there. But I’m definitely in for Sunday!
We’ve had an expression of interest in renting a boat from a sufficient number of people; I’d like to get a firm commitment from anyone who is definitely planning on chipping in for it, beyond a “That sounds like fun.”
The half day for $119 sounds like the most attractive deal, I think, and I’ll throw out Saturday afternoon from 1-5 for the rental time. I presume there will be tax and fuel on top of the rental cost, so if we get 10 people to commit, we’re probably looking at around $15 apiece.
We will take care of the reservation, but will want at least 6 total before we jump. So, who’s in definitely for sure?
Well, since the First Mate’s position is filled, I’ll volunteer to haul the keel, or poop the deck or something, but go ahead and put me on the crew roster.
