Doritos

If you are limited to enjoying a sensation once, you’d rather not ever experience it? Are you Karl Pilkington?

I’ve pretty much stopped buying Taco flavor Doritos because I know that I’ll open them shortly after I get home, and then I’ll eat them all.

I don’t do that with anything else.

Salsa Verde, sadly not available in Canada, are the best flavour of Doritos.

Those were the sheeit. I thought I saw a similar flavor at the store a couple years ago, but maybe I’m just hallucinating.

I don’t care for Doritos, they’re mundane things with very little difference in flavors (except maybe Sweet Chili) that fill up your stomach and give you bad breath for days. I like thin thin plain white corn chips. I loved the Tacos At Midnight, but I REALLY loved Cheeseburgers At Midnight, yeah, with that dill pickle note. I liked the black bag with the neon signs. My days of actually stopping for tacos or cheeseburgers after an evening out are long gone, but I usta do that!..Naturally they disappeared off the shelves :(, which is probably a good thing. I don’t need to eat a bag of Doritos a week :(…(Herrs chips aren’t corn chips, but they have unusual distinctive flavors beyond same old same old BBQ or sour cream and onion.)

Same here, but they don’t sell them in my part of the country (southeast U.S.), so I haven’t had them in years.

I’ve been on a weird kick lately. Nacho cheese Doritos dipped in salsa.

What was the original flavor?

I believe they were originally just plain, salted, fried tortilla chips when first introduced in 1967.

Taco Flavor was introduced a year later because consumers liked them but considered them too bland.

Nacho came along in 1972, Cool Ranch in 1986.

I can’t imagine that taco and nacho flavor are all that different from each other.

I don’t frequently eat corn chips, and prefer them plain, but if I could get a multipack 1 of each flavor I would just to try the different flavors without having to buy a whole bag.

Quite different. Taco tastes like taco seasoning…cumin-y. Nacho mostly tastes like cheese.

They all taste the way dry dog food smells when you first open the bag, except for unflavored (“toasted corn”), which is the right chip to dip in your salsa.

And the whole purpose of a tortilla chip is to dip it in salsa. It’s a salsa delivery mechanism.

Cool ranch! It doesn’t taste like any other snack chip (strangely, when it first came out it reminded me of heavily buttered popcorn but it tastes less like that these days). Very Yummy!

Thanks, jerks, for making me remember how much I like salsa verde Doritos. They are mainstream in California, but unavailable on the East Coast.

Holy crap, has it been that long? I would’ve guessed Cool Ranch only came out five, six years ago.

Nope, they’ve been around a long time. My childhood best friend made nice with my dog, who hated practically everyone, by feeding her Cool Ranch doritos when we were 11. We’re 36 now.

My favorites were the 3D’s ones because they had such an interesting texture, but of course they were discontinued. So nacho or nothing now.

Cooler ranch doritos. They had a pot more flavor than regular cool ranch, and came in a lighter shade of blue. Haven’t seen them around in years unfortunately.

And, thus, a stereotype of Doritos is confirmed.

I could have sworn that they came out some time in the 90s. I have vague memories of seeing commercials for that flavor then as though it were new.
