Doritos

I would have guessed 1989-1990, myself. So I guess I wasn’t too far off. 1986 seems a tad early to me, but maybe it wasn’t introduced or popular in all markets by the time we got it.

Sorry. Have some Utz® Crab Chips.

I remember the big ad campaign when “Cool Ranch” was introduced. At the time it was actually “Cooler Ranch,” which seems weird now because, in hindsight, at the time there was really nothing else, besides actual ranch dressing, with which to compare it to, thus it was actually “cooler” ranch than everything else by default.

sighs That should have been lot, not pot. Android keyboards and my fingers don’t like one another.

Yes!

I do remember “Cooler Ranch”! For some reason, I thought they were “Cool Ranch” at first, then went to “Cooler Ranch,” then back to “Cool Ranch,” but I guess I wouldn’t be sure, as I don’t remember them from '86 but a couple years later.

Mostly I prefer Fritos (Chili Cheese) if I’m going for corn chips, but for Doritos my favorite flavor is taco.

I (of course) have a stupid story about the night I first ate Doritos, but I think I’ll keep it to myself.

I would agree that in Fritos vs Doritos, Fritos gets my vote.

Not the plain Fritos. Those are tasteless. The chili-cheese ones are good, though.

I’ll take the plain Fritos, too.

Spicy Nacho’s got my number now.

This is my memory as well.

The Bar-B-Q Fritos have a little kick - very tasty. I prefer those, but they can be hard to find, and I’ve only ever seen them in the small bags.

My favorite was Fiery Habanero. Unfortunately, they were discontinued shortly after I discovered them and had the painful pleasure of consuming only two bags before they vanished.

Now I’d say the “Jacked” Spicy Chipotle would be my favorite among the flavors that are currently available.

The Jacked Enchilada is crazy good. Although, I don’t consider those a “natural” Doritos flavor, but more like some monstrosity mixed in the lab and unleashing all hell out of my ass.

I like most of the Doritos flavors, but Spicy Nacho and Regular Nacho the best. I also really like the Spicy Sweet Chili.

Never understand people saying this. The taste is different, but it’s not weaker. They have a very strong salty and fatty taste to them. Much stronger in those respects than Doritos, for sure. That’s why plain tortilla chips are so bland.

You’re one of those people who says store bought mayonnaise is bland, aren’t you? Even though it has onion, garlic, vinegar, lemon juice, etc?

Wow, all because of my dislike of plain Fritos. Really, I find them bland. I need to dip them in cheese or salsa or chili to enjoy them.

I’ll save my opinions regarding mayonnaise for a time when I decide what they are.

I was standing in front of the Doritos section at Safeway once, staring at the assortment of flavors, and commented to a nearby employee, “I’m old enough to remember when going to the store for a bag of Doritos was a simple thing.”
