I am being taken to dine this evening as well - there are still two friends who haven’t “birthday’d” me (woohoo a two week long birthday!) We will be going to a hibachi style japanese restaurant near where I live that I’ve been eager to try. woohoo for impressive knife skills and yummy food
I likes those places. I like all the carryin’ on with the knives, flames, eggs and stuff. Have I mentioned that I’m easy to entertain?
You too? I got some requests to pull user access reports so people that own the various applications on our Unix servers can see who’s using the stuff. Unfortunately, this particular system was never constructed with such a thing in mind twenty years* ago, and attempting to pull the report flogs the master server so hard that it will crash or at least go visit la-la land every time we try to do it and leave 2100 users in limbo.
Stoopid Sarbanes-Oxley Act!
But who cares about that? It’s FRIDAY, which means I’m about to head off for the Renaissance Faire. Sadly, it’s our last week, so I’ll be at work next Friday.
- 20 years is actually about the midpoint age for our applications. Some of the mainframe stuff is older than I am, but it’s still chugging happily away. Such is life at a company that’s over 150 years old.
Taters, I forgot to tell you that when I told Papa Tigs your reaction to AHLTA, he said to tell you that his site hasn’t upgraded to the latest version yet because they can’t figure out how to make it work with their gigantamundo database, but he hears that at the site he presumes you’re at, the most recent upgrade sucked so bad the commander ordered everyone back to paper and pencil. So presumably you two are in complete accord on how bad that program is.
I just dug my way out from under a Friday rush. I hate, hate, hate it when a client calls up and says, “We need that job three days ago – the one that you’re only half done with and that is running six times as long as it should!” So from 9 am to 3:30 pm, I only stopped long enough to pee or let the dogs out to pee. I’d give up and just go to bed with a sick headache now (I don’t have one, but I feel like I should), but Papa Tigs already beat me to it. He never naps, so clearly he’s having a good day, too. :dubious:
It’s Friday the 13th, so I am cleaning floors. Well I did the tile, Robby the Roomba does the carpet. The N.C. State fair opens today, after taxi’s MMP, I might go and get fried something on a stick.
swampy, we like you, too.
My condolences for the data miners, keep a close eye on the canary.
rosie, they were obviously selling drugs.
I am filled with grrr this afternoon. Why are people losing money? *My * money, thousands of dollars worth. Grrr. They’d better find it or I’ll be **really ** annoyed. They’ve (another they) also lost Mr. Particular’s estimated tax payments and and and. Grrrr. At least Mr. Particular won’t be my problem after next week.
I don’t even use AHLTA to mine data. I stick to legacy CHCS, and various other data mining tools I have at hand.
Ok, they found my money, but they put in the wrong place.   There are no words to describe how GRRRR I am right now. Because of course, the wrong place won’t give it back, seeing as I how I owe them $$$, too. So, now I still owe everybody a little bit of money, instead of one company a medium amount of money. Oh well. It’s still a managable amount. And it will be paid off this year anyway. But still, GRRRRRR.
My sweetie is home - YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!
We were within 40 minutes of home when we found ourselves in a non-moving line of traffic. So we decided to turn around and get some dinner, figuring the jam would clear. At the restaurant, we found out it was a big accident with 3 or 4 fatalities, and they expected it to be at least 5 hours till it cleared. So after we ate, we had to go home via Solomons - heck of a detour. It was nearly 8 when we got here.
**kai ** - I’m not gonna repeat what everyone else has said - just let me add - good on ya! Fight the good fight!!
That’s all I can manage. I’m pooped. Maybe I’ll get caught up tomorrow. Maybe not. No matter.
*MWAH * for everyone!!!
Well, liar liar pants on fire. I found an online report about the accident - no fatalities, but 2 folks were lifeflighted out. The crash involved 2 cars and a school bus. The cars will never drive again, but the bus (no kids aboard) had minimal damage. So anyway, that’s good.
back from dinner - it was the yummiest! I had a steak-lobster combo - yummilicious! and for dessert - tempura fried red bean ice cream - wowowowowoweeeeeeee!
(i am also easy to please) (sometimes ;))
[Ric Flair]WOOO! WOOO![/RF] Canes win! Beers on me![sub]seriously, I spilled a little[/sub]

Yay for the Canes! My brother tells me the Tigers won, so Double Yay!
Sorry to hear about the moving money, Jahdra. Glad it’s sort of straightened out, but still…
Oh, and Spats: the reason you like grad school? It’s cuz you’re an engineer.
Long day, but I got a lot done. And had wonderful (so far) Friday the 13th karma: our release that’s all struggly made a big leap forward today!!! Yay!
Had to go out and find a new purse because the strap broke on mine. I really really have to have a shoulder bag, in case you’re wondering. Had to carry the old purse by the handle while looking for the new one and it was EXTREMELY annoying. Really like the new purse; it’s more stylish than the old one. I’m still figuring out the best way to fit everything into it.
I know I missed stuff…hi everyone!!! I’ll stop back when I’m more awake.
GT
BZZZZZZZTT Wrong answer! I’m an engineer and I never got past wondering if I should go to grad school. And ya know, I was right - apart from bragging rights, it wouldn’t have made a lot of difference in my career. Of course, I now work in a place that’s chock full of folks with master’s and PhDs, and there I am with my 1979 vintage BSE, but I still make as much, if not more, than most of them. (although that has to do with having been with the gov’t for 32 years…)
It’s a cold morning here - 35 when I took Bernie out. More of the same tomorrow, I hear. Then it goes back closer to normal, with lows in the 50s, I think. That’s the weather, now over to Biff for Sports!! Biff??

Almost time to leave for class. I gotta stop enroute for a muffin and a sody-pop, then off I go to play in the mud with my friends. No Tina today - she’s going to a wedding, so we get a sub. We should all sit at different wheels and use fake names, huh? <snerk>
Back in junior high, a guy in our class told the sub his name was Johnny Cool, and she spent the whole day calling him “Cool” - confused when we giggled. Kids that age are such a pain…
Have a good Saturday, one and all. Stay warm or cool <snerk> as appropriate for your climate. And some of you have been very remiss with your chocolate love offerings - just a reminder - leftover crappy Halloween candy doesn’t count. I want the good stuff, because I deserve it, dammit!

Good mornin’ y’all! I’ve been up a while. Long enough to have several cups of go juice, update antivirus defs, update some windows stuff and run a virus scan whilst perusing some ummm… educational stuff on the web.
Today is all about cooking and last minute cleaning for tonight’s soiree. Twelve people for dinner. Yes, I am just nuts, why do you ask? Also, I need to pack for my trip to Ioway. Have I mentioned I have to take a 6:15 AM flight out of Albeeny? :o That’s me yawning on the plane. I have to do this so I can make a connecting flight from Etlanner (planes from Albeeny go to and from Etlanner only) to Minneapolis (I’ll wave to Taxi and KeithT from the airport), where I get to hop on the crop duster from Minneapolis to Mason City, Ioway and then make the huge three mile trek to Clear Lake where I’ll meet up with colleagues from various parts of the USA to plot and plan what we’re supposed to be doin’. Sounds exciting huh? I bet every one of yas wishes you were me.
Oh, the weather here is just loverly. It’s about 60 degrees Amurrkin right now, so I have all the windows open. It’s supposed to get up to 75 this afternoon. By dinnertime it should be around 70, so the plan is for al fresco dining, being as my back porch is all clean and stuff. Cocktails and munchies (I can’t spell the fancy name for munchies) at six, dinner at seven. With any luck I’ll have folks outta here by nine so I can load the dishwasher, turn it on and hit the sack. ACBG is takin’ me to the airport tomorrow morning and will unload the dishwasher for me tomorrow. Ain’t he sweet! He even knows where to put most of the stuff. What he can’t figure out, he’ll leave in the dishwasher.
Ok, time to clean up cause I’m being taken to breakfast. Then the fun begins.
Good morning!. It’s 45 here, 61 in the apartment. I turnedon the heat, so the zoo would stop clinging to me. Work today, tomorrow, and forever.
swampy, you lucky dog! I love flying in those puddle jumpers.
caninusservantus I don’t mind ‘em as long as they’re like those Canadair Regional Jets. It’s those itty bitty commuter 16 passenger things you feel like you oughta be stickin’ your arms out the window and flappin’ to keep the dang thing in the air I don’t like.
Class act that we are, ACBG and I dined at McDonald’s this morning. What? It’s quick and easy. I have two sweet potato pies in the oven and a third ready to bake. Two’s all I want to try bakin’ at a time. The house smells like sweet potatoes and spices. YUM! Dinner shall be grilled pork tenderloin medallions (medalions?) with an apricot-applesauce sauce, wild rice casserole, asparagus with a red bell pepper sauce, broccoli salad, rolls (I cheated they’re frozen, but I’ll thaw and cook ‘em), and sweet tater pie. The snack thingy is a warm crab and artichoke dip with pita chips for dippin’. For cocktails there will be a choice of white zinfandel (what? it’s a good wine, it has a cork in it) or if prefered, a shaken martini with blue cheese stuffed olives. Heck, if’n they want, they can grab a beer from the fridge cause we are very gracious hosts, thankyouverymuch. Should someone prefer something nonalcoholic (yeah, like that’s gonna happen with this bunch!) an assortment of sodas (cola and non), club soda, and other stuff is available.
Why on earth would I be hosting a dinner party the night before I have to get up soooooo early to go on a bidness trip, you ask? Cause the party was planned before I knew about goin’ to Ioway and one just does not cancel an already invited to party except in case of serious injury or death or such similar catastrophe. Doing otherwise is just tacky.
I like (and so does ACBG) doin’ this stuff. Can ya tell?
I think I can tell. Also, you are a fabulous cook, so would you pass me a pork medallion through the cd drive, please?
My knee has been examined, and I have exercises, and I need to get the wide, stretchy elastic stuff to do them with. Where do I get it? Althetic stores? There’s a Running Room on the way to work. I’ll stop there and check.
I think maybe I’ll try to hoist Mr. Lissar out of bed. He’s had nine hours’ sleep.
I describe myself as a good home cook. I’m not into fancy cooking, just good cooking. My idea of a good recipe is one I can mix, cook and serve in the same dish.
It’s a pretty day here, but I have absolutely zero motivation to do anything. Except figure out how to turn the damn heel on this sock I’m knitting. I am good at following instructions to the letter! Why am I having so much trouble?* Okay, it’s my first toe-up sock, and things work differently going toe-up and toe-down. But I like knitting tricky stuff, dammit! I did find a wonderful yarn, though, to keep my toes warm – 60% wool/40% soy. That’s right, soy. Think wearing the socks will do anything for my hot flashes?
It’s a wonderfully soft yarn; the soy takes all the itchiness out of the wool.
Papa Tigs is just waiting for it to warm up a bit more to take the puppies for a swim. They’re moping about sadly. They wanted to go this morning when it was a comfy 36°F! Who cares if it’s cold? Cold is gooood when you have a permanent fur coat!
Swampy, can I come over for dinner? I will do just about anything for sweet potato pie. I realize you aren’t interested in my sexual favors, but hey, I’ll even scrub floors and do windows! Whatcha think about that, big boy? Is that worth a sweet potato pie or three?
Now back to my stupid heel-turning.**
*Actually, I think I’ve finally got it, but it took three ripouts back to square one before I got to this point. And this is supposed to be relaxing?
**Really, it’s not stupid now that I’ve figured it out (I think). But I’m still PO’d at myself for taking so long to figure it out.
