Downtown Albany and the Bronx Zoo - an Educational MMP

Good morning everyone. I’ve consumed several cups of go-juice and have been cleaning and straightening. I’m also sorting out important papers, etc. I’ve made so-so progress.

I need to make sure I’m done by this afternoon, because I need to go to the store to pick up munchies and what not for this evening’s shindig. We’re having folks over to socialize and play cards and what-not.

Well, back to the drudgery. I just wanted to pop in and wish everyone a good morning.

Back from class. Got a load of towels in the washer and I’m trying to decide what to do for lunch. **FCD ** is working on the boat and I have no idea when he’ll get home. I want to play in clay, but it’s not a good idea when doing laundry - I don’t need to be touching clean, wet clothes when I could have wet clay anywhere upon my person. And the way I play in clay, it’s very likely that I’ll have wet clay upon my person.

So it’ll have to wait.

So I can concentrate on lunch. I’m hungry. What to eat… what to eat…

Incidentally, Mama T, you’re right about the glorious weather! It’s almost enough to make me want to go outside and pick up sticks. Almost…

Tigs I hate cleaning windows, so I’ll trade ya a couple sweet N.O.T. pies for window cleaning.

ACBG went and got us some Chinese for lunch.

YOU ARE DESTINED TO BE A LEADER, NOT A FOLLOWER

<snerk> away cool kids!

It’s very pretty out today and I’ve already been out to the park to help make scarecrows and see what kind of painted pumpkins we had. Lots of clever stuff. I got to bring glow-in-the dark paint home with me for a couple of pumpkins. I’m going to paint two for my house and see if they’ll work for the park.

That yarn sounds neat, Tigs. I wonder if they sell stuff made from that blend. I have some cotton-bamboo blend socks that I like a lot, but I haven’t seen soy yet.
YOU ARE DESTINED TO BE A LEADER, NOT A FOLLOWER**<snerk> in bed!<snerk>**
Kind of a compliment, isn’t it?

Well, gotta do laundry, then some work number crunching, then maybe some gardening and some pumpkin washing and painting.

Back after a while…

GT

Well, I don’t like to brag, but, ACBG ain’t got any complaints.

I actually woke up before noon! Hurray! I’ve been sorting junk this morning. There’s junk that has got to go, junk that might be worth donating, and junk that I still can’t bear to part with. I should probably just tell them to take everything. Well, except that I Keep finding prior year’s tax returns in odd places, so I need to make sure there’s nothing actually important in there. But everything else must go! I have a separate box for the white elephant exchange. Come Monday, a nice big box is going out to some lucky recipient. Most of the stuff is new, it’s just, well, ok, actually *most * of it is regifted.

A new yarn store is opening today in Sunnyvale. The owners split off from another yarn store, with much angst, and have started their own. It’s all good for the knitters, crocheters and weavers. It looks like they will be carrying some yummy yarns that haven’t been available locally. I’m on a yarn diet (that means no new yarn until I use up what I have) but there’s no harm in looking, right? Right? :stuck_out_tongue: Hey, I didn’t buy any cashmere at UFO Night last night, and they had a new shipment in. I didn’t even look at it, though it sounded like an orgy in there.

Jah you went to a UFO and they had cashmere? You so should have bought some alien cashmere!

Third load of laundry is in the machine. Sweetie is on his way home from the boat. On my way to peel some N.O.T. for some yummerrific N.O.T. soup.

Don’cha wish you were dining here??

MMMM - soup was definitely yummerrific! We had it with a dollop of sour cream (usually I add shredded swiss, but we were out) - definitely good eatin’!

And while we were eating, **FCD ** was looking at the catalog we got from the College of Southern Maryland. He noticed that they had ceramics classes, and I decided to investigate a bit further. Bottom line - I’ve applied for admission and if all goes well, in January, I’ll be taking a ceramics course 2 nights a week. I’ll get to learn stuff that Tina doesn’t teach, including hand building, mixing glazes, and different firing techniques. I’ll take all three classes over the course of the next year or so. I am very excited!

And when I’m all done, I may even be qualified to teach. Which would be a cool post-retirement career…

Last load of clothes in the dryer. An evening of chilling ahead. Oh yeeeeeaaaaaahhhh!

Why do I like the sound of alien cashmere?

Those classes sound like fun, FCM! Cool that FCD happened upon them…

Exciting afternoon chez GT. Went to church for about an hour to pull out plants that are ready to go. Went to find some additional paint for pumpkins and then stopped by a new organic/natural foods grocery that just opened (Sunflower Market). It was OK, but nothing out of this world (yes, I’m spoiled; we already have Trader Joe’s, Wild Oats and Whole Foods; this one isn’t quite up to the level of those, although it has potential).

Now I’m having pizza and relaxing before moving back into the wonderful world of data clean-up. Woo hoo.

You’re envious, aren’t you?

For excitement, I’ll be doing laundry.

GT

Just a quick drive-by; it is sunny, 60 degrees, a bit of breeze to keep off the bugs. #3 and I are gonna work on getting my 400+ bulbs into the ground, skiffman and The Son are hanging/gutting/skinning/ a nice deer, and Jeff is hanging sheetrock.

Hope everyone else is having a pleasant day, whatever your plans are, see y’all later!

Alien cashmere? Sweet! I’ve drooled over cashmere yarn many times. Even when it was on sale for 40% off, since it was $50 for 100 grams to start with, it was still too rich for my blood. But don’t cashmere socks sound to DIE for? Hmm…now that I’ve figured out how to turn a heel on a toe-up sock, maybe I’ll have to step up to cashmere sometime!

Next time I get down your way, I will definitely take you up on the N.O.T. pie in exchange for windows, oh Swampy Leader! (Why don’t we have a drooling in anticipation smiley?)

Great idea to learn lots more and then teach in your retirement, FCM. A fun retirement career sounds like just the ticket! But why weren’t you guys out on the boat today? We took the dogs to the beach that’s directly on the bay this afternoon, and the water was calm but apparently there was enough wind for lots of sailing, judging by the 10,000 or so sailboats out. It was a perfect fall sailing day. The dogs also thought it was a perfect fall swimming day. Of course, they wanted to go first thing this morning when it was a comfy 38°, so their judgment is suspect.

On a less cheery note, I got a call from a friend in Michigan – her son’s best friend is in the Marines and lost a leg in Iraq last month. He’s now at the hospital Papa Tigs works at, and his mom is staying with him and is sooo frustrated because she’s struggling to find resources to help him out. So I have been tasked with helping where I can, which should prove challenging. My friend is an amazing organizer – she founded a group that I joined two years ago, Operation Quiet Comfort, that has grown from 30 members when I joined to over 600 today, and supports a bunch of frontline military hospitals in a whole variety of ways, and she can single-handedly keep everyone focused on doing whatever is needed. I’m really glad there are folks like her out there, doing so much good so quietly!

Back to the knitting. I’m working my way up the leg – first sock should be done tonight! Yay for new socks!

Well, because she is in a partial state of disrepair - **FCD ** is still working on rewiring the whole thing, and today he replaced the oil pressure and water temp sender. However, the instruments are not working yet, and the radio is not hooked up yet, and it’s not really seaworthy. I’m figuring we won’t do any sailing till after our spring haulout. There’s so much work to do and not much nice weather left. Oh well…

Since when is disrepair an excuse not to be out on the water? Pikers, the both of you!

We were out. Wife wanted to "look’ at some furniture.

This is what we ‘looked’ at.

Delivery expected sometime in November.

Oh, like you’re not going to fill it with tequila and bar ware… :dubious:

I spent the day at various athletic events for various children. It was a good day.

Nice cabinet MBG. You bought one for me, too, right?

Hope you’re able to help your friend’s friend, Mama T.

I’ve been on the couch watching The Importance of Being Earnest, falling asleep for a while, and now watching Me Myself I.

Also figured out that I have less data to clean up than I thought I did. (Guess the extra sleep is paying off.)

Back to the movie…

Back from work, slightly less hideous than last week.

Good mornin’ y’all! A quick driveby here before I go get my self all beautified for a day of sittin’ around airports. Woo and Hoo.

The soiree was a hit. Good food. Good friends. Good conversation. The last guest left at 9:15 after which the dishwasher got loaded in record time and I hit the bed.

Off to shower and travel. Have a good week everybody!

Morning! I’m having coffee before work. See you all tonight, or in tomorrow’s MMP>
