Downtown Albany and the Bronx Zoo - an Educational MMP

Great pics, Mika - love the turtle video.

Today I have Columbus day off. I must be the only person I know who does. Even the kids have school today.

Saturday was spent at the in-laws - we still get along, even if their son and I don’t at the moment. We had dinner at a family restaurant where the proprietor has known my daughter and nephew since they were babies. I had fun, but still wish I’d budgeted the $35 for the Detour festival downtown. I really wanted to see Beck.

Sunday my folks had most of my siblings over except little bro, who flaked out. My niece (age 9) just got a Bratz sewing machine, which she demonstrated by making sleeping bags for her Polly Pocket dolls. Hope it doesn’t end up in the garage with the other stuff.

Off to do some actual housework, for once.

Franklin is underwater, at least it was this morning. And 460 by Zuni is washed out. The nifty electric road signs on I-64 are telling folks to use US-58 as an alternate route.

Nava notice anything similar between your mother and her parents? Kind of remeinds me of the conversations I have with my mother when she starts on about her mother. She doesn’t realize she’s complaining about the same behavior that she exhibits. All I can do is bite my lip and be thankful that she lives 450 miles away.

Oh yeah, today’s a bank holiday. I work for a bank. Why am I at work?

Stoopit retail banking (what normal customers see as “the bank”) get the day off. Us infrastructure geeks? A regular day of keeping the place running.

Grrr…

Well, the daughter’s room has been mucked out and steam cleaned. I have a bad, bad, bad feeling that I wasn’t able to remove cat urine. Worse, I have a feeling that he had used that little corner more than once. Last week, I soaked it with Nature’s Miracle and put towels on top in hopes of getting the smell removed. Maybe my nose is extra-sensative.

At any rate, I’ll let the carpet finish drying, then I’ll do the Nature’s Miracle thing again. I really, really think I’m screwed though. Dammit!

I’m going to let my daughter put all her crap away. I’ve been telling her for a week I wanted to steam clean her room. I told her ad infinitum to put her crap away. She didn’t. I piled it all on top of her bed. She won’t be sleeping until she puts it all away properly.

I need to take a shower now. God, I feel gross.

It’s easier to pack up and move than it is to get rid of cat pee smell.

If Natures Miracle doesn’t get it out, it’s time for new carpet. You’ll want to keep the NM wet and alive for a couple of days so the little buggies can eat the cat pee.

Seeing as it’s a corner, have you pulled up the carpet and pad (I’m assuming it’s wall-to-wall) and seen that the cat pee’s not gotten to the (again assuming) wood floor underneath? If it’s nice hardwood, oh well. Keeping it wet with NM is apt to cause some harm to the finish, but cat pee’s not done it (or your nose!) any favors either. If it’s plywood or chipboard, go ahead and pour on the NM and cover it with plastic wrap/foil so it can stay damp. Same goes for the carpet and pad. If you’ve pulled back the carpet in that corner, it’ll be easy to ensure that you’ve gotten NM into the carpet and pad, as compared to pouring an arbitrary amount on the floor and hoping.

If you don’t have one already, a UV “Stink Finder” light is useful - the stinky stuff will glow under UV light.

Whatever the flooring is made of, keeping the NM on it and wet, or at least damp, for a couple of days is the key.

MMMMMM… Bears. I need a private collection.

Oh, the big payroll meeting did not happen today. It will happen tomorrow cause we had some people who took today off cause their [del]hellspawn[/del] progeny are out of school for fall break, so they went away for a long weekend. Can’t blame 'em for that. So, tomorrow will be the great wailing, gnashing of teeth, rending of garments, bitch and moan meeting. This will not take effect for six weeks. Surely people can get their stuff all straightened out by then. I’m not all the way heartless. I was the one who suggested we give people six weeks to get their finances straightened out before biweekly pay begins. I’m so nice, dammit.

gotti, thanks for the helpful tips. It’s certainly worth trying. I did keep the area wet for a couple days (hence the towels). There isn’t any nice hardwood under the carpets, just plywood, I 'm sure. Stoopit kat.

Oh, I can’t move, we just bought this place (brand spanking new) three and a half years ago. STOOPIT CAT! He did the same thing in my son’s closet when we first moved in, but I was able to get that out. It took several tries, but I finally succeeded. I should have thrown him outside then.

He was fine for all this time and then he pulled this crap again. At any rate, he lives outside now. He can piss and poop all over the place there.

Swampy, our kids aren’t off for Columbus day. They do have two days off later this week (Thursday and Friday) for a teacher’s inservice day and some other teacher thingy. I’m kind of glad the kids weren’t off today. Although I was doing something I didn’t really want to do, it was quiet around here, at least.

I just got off the phone with Mr. Taters. He’s on his way home and will be walking through the door very soon.

Introducing Loki The other VunderDog .

While I’m at it, here’s a weekold shot of Maddy being a slug.

Aw, what a little cutie, Bobbio. Loki was one of the names on the list I suggested.

I’m giving my hair some time to air dry, then I’ll have to fix myself up and go to the grocery store. I never made it yesterday. I need to buy some milk, fruit, bread and Diet Coke. I also need to buy some meat. I also need to buy some ice cream. I bought some last week and never got a single spoonful of it.

Our friend brought us a freshly caught salmon yesterday evening. That thing must have been around eighteen pounds. So, I spent the evening cleaning it up and filleting it. I did a pretty crappy job of the filleting it. It’s been so long, that I’ve lost my touch. Tonight’s dinner will include salmon. I put the other side in the freezer after wrapping it up several times.

Fresh salmon ::dool::

Bobbio Loki is a cutey. How is Maddy taking it? Boxers are such jake dogs.

Aerostar will spend the night at the shop. They can’t figure out what’s wrong. It’s one of those semi-intermittent problems. The service manager asked me a few more questions and he came up with something else to try. He was also confused by us having 2 different pairs of tires - we needed 4, but they only had 2 of each kind in stock. I didn’t think it was a big deal…

Anyway, I get to drive the crappy loaner tomorrow - an ancient Corsica that reeks of smoke. It ain’t pretty, but it gets me to work and it’s free. I love my garage. I love my Aerostar. I just wish my Aerostar didn’t require me to give my garage so much money. Oh well, it’s still less than a car payment, so far.

**FCD ** is in Ocala with his folks. They just got back from a Hawaii cruise, and my MIL has spent the day doing laundry. Great fun, that.

I need to go to my studio and do a little clay work. Just a little - I’m going to wrap the pieces that need a lot of work and attack them later in the week. I don’t feel up to hours of mucking today. I have a nice clean living room, dining room, and family room. I’ll be loading the dishwasher before bed, so the kitchen will be semi-tidy. Maybe tomorrow I’ll dust my bedroom. Or not. We’ll see.

I’m sorry to hear about your van woes, FCM. I hope it turns out to be a rather inexpensive fix.

I need to get a load of laundry started too. Maybe I’ll go do that now.

Dust your bedroom then reward yourself with ice cream. I find a system like that works well when house cleaning.

I have made a necklace and a bracelet, done three loads of laundry, cleaned the kitchen, baked another batch of beads, and emptied the litterboxes. I can’t decide if I want to reward myself with mint cocolate chip ice cream or a screwdriver. Mr. SCL has gone to the cabin for the night, so I can do whatever I want!

I’d suggest you pour the screwdriver over the mint chocolate chip ice cream Snakes but the thought of it skeeves me out.

That would be a waste of perfectly good booze, Swampy!

Yeah, I know. If there was a Norse god of poop, that’s what he’d’ve been named instead.

Maddy wants us to think she’s POed, but she starts all of the play action when she thinks we’re not looking. Having a (physically) big brudder is something she likes.

Off to the Mayberry Volunteer Fire Department. It’s training night.

Am I the only one who read this and thought: “Hmmmm, ice cream or a common hand tool - why does this even require consideration??”

:smack:

No, I’m not much of a drinker - why do you ask??

I don’t get why you have to choose between the ice cream and the screwdriver. Both seem perfectly acceptable to me. In fact, later this evening, I’ll enjoy a leet;e bowl of Ben & Jerry’s Turtle Soup, and a Sam’s Octoberfest. See? Perfection.

I had a fairly productive day, for a day off. I got the kitchen all clean and shiny, did a few loads of laundry, and mowed the lawn.

This is why it’s ok to treat yoursaelf to both.
