Drew Rosenhaus an Terrel Owens. The mind boggles

http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/sports/12173099.htm

Do I understand correctly that:

[ul]last year w/ a different agent T.O. signed a 7 year, 49 mil deal
[/ul] [ul]this year, at the encouragement of a new agent who’d see some of the additional money, he want’s to break that contract and be paid more[/ul][ul]this course of action has already cost him 1.725 mil of a 2.3 mil signing bonus?[/ul]

I remember back when your word was your word. If the above is true then neither one of these bastards’ word counts for shit.

What a douchebag.

Yes.

Not yet. It win if the team finds that he has engaged in “conduct detrimental to the team.” They won’t do that until there’s no chance of patching things up.

Wait about 5 weeks.

I do:[

As to being popular: I’ve no doubt that with a certain segment of fans, he’s more popular for “standing up to The Man.” But endorsements don’t come from a narrow, passionate fan base; they come from being broadly well-liked by most people. Certainly in Philly he’s gone from second-most popular athelete to most-hated.

And whereas some of his escapades in SF could be seen as meant in fun (Sharpies, Pom-Poms) and the problems with Garcia & Mariucci could be seen as a he-said/he-said, there’s really no way to spin a guy comparing himself to Jesus because he only makes $3 million.

I don’t have a problem with NFL players holding out in general - like Ellis Dee said, that’s the equivalent of a team releasing an underperforming player., and there’s no reason the player’s word should be worth more than the team’s. But when Owens is crying about not being one of the top paid receivers, he’s conveniently ignoring the (approximately) $9,000,000 signing bonus he got last season. He’s making just under $7,000,000 a year over the first three years of the contract. Only Randy Moss and Marvin Harrison are paid more than that. Torry Holt, who’s just about as good as Owens (better, in my opinion, when you facotr in all the distractions) and two years younger, only averages $5,400,000 a year over the first three years of his contract.

Of course, the Eagles are going to release Owens after this season to avoid paying him another $7,500,000 bonus. And the poor guy only has a base salary of $3,250,000 this year. I can’t imagine how I would get by on such a paltry sum. My dogs would actually have to eat -gasp- dog food!

If he went ahead and played under the terms of his current contract, he’d be released after the season and a free agent. With all his histrionics this season, he’s destroying his future value in free agency. If he’s true to his word and doesn’t play at all under this contract, the same scenario will play out next year.

Actually, we refer to them as the Cowgirls. My BIL is an Iggles fan & the first preseason game is this weekend; LET THE SMACKTALKING COMMENCE!

Owens sat out the whole playoffs with a busted leg for three million dollars, which, after taxes and agent’s cut, is probably about 1.9. And he counts against the cap for the life of his contract (seven years).

Jesus, on the other hand, came back from the freaking DEAD after three days. Killed on Wedensday night. Alive before dawn on Sunday. The guy gets tortured and killed- and doesn’t even miss pre-game film session. And all this for thirty pieces of silver. And even that is prorated over the life of His covenant, which is for all freaking ETERNITY, which is a pretty big number to divide by.

I bet Christ would catch more than 14 TDs, too.

Did his numbers last year, in the first year of the contract, warrent any sort of raise? This answer will be based on personal opinion, but it was year one of a seven year deal. Of course, the best thing would possibly be for one year contracts to be standard, but that would work against TO as well. As pointed out he is killing his own value around the league by being such a :wally . If he wants the security of a multi year deal my logic tells me not to bitch after year one.

True, but the current system is what was agreed to in the CBA. IMO the NFLPA is worst players association, because they should so much more clout then they seem to actually have.

Interesting – This site is usually well-informed:

Actually, I’ve heard Cryboys, Cowgirls, Foreskins, and Deadskins

Let me clarify what I said…

In general, I think player holdouts are fine. In this specific case, I think TO’s a whining crybaby who needs a swift kick in the ass.

Yeah, the NFL long ago neutered the NFLPA. But looking at the differences between the NFL and MLB, I’ll take the eunuch union every time.

In all seriousness, does Terrell Owens have an emotional or psychological disability?

I mean, I know some crybabies - everyone does. This men’s behaviour goes way beyond being a crybaby and into disturbed behaviour.

I don’t know if it is anything other than the coddled sports star who is used to getting his way, probably at least since high school. But Owens takes it TO THE MAX!!!11!!

So in other words, then, he’s done worse and remains a popular, valuable, successful player. When I said “cause a true problem,” I meant for the Eagles. Sorry if that was not clear. I’m not saying the man isn’t a jackass.

That NFL guy, whoever he is, is entitled to his opinion and so are you. However I don’t believe a word of what he says. If he doesn’t stay with the Eagles, someone will want him. He had a great year last year and broke a number of Eagles records, and that was in 14 games. He’s 32 and not past his prime. If things don’t work out for him in Philadelphia, I have no doubt he’ll say the right things and win fans over, if only temporarily, somewhere else.

I just can’t see him being warmly welcomed in Seattle.

Oh, I think he could catch on somewhere else, too. I guess I was responding more to the idea that someone would trade for him, or that his value wasn’t irreperably damaged. He’ll hook on somewhere; but it won’t be for the money he wants, and they won’t give up much in trade value. And he won’t last three seasons there, either.

He got $7 million a year in Philadelphia after all that squabbling with San Francisco and with Baltimore just last year.

Yeah, but that was probably under the assumption that when he got somewhere with a “good” QB who would get him the ball, he’d be a team player. Now everyone knows that he’ll be a prima donna no matter who he’s playing for.

:wipes tear: That was beautiful.
