I was thinking about this because I saw another SUV with TV’s inside and of course even with the tinted windows it was easy to see the movie playing on the screens.
The movie was Harold and Kumar go to White Castle if you must know…anyway what if it was a hardcore, xxx-rated porno and a police officer saw or a “concerned citizen” could that person be ticketed or put in jail?
Not in San Francisco they couldn’t. Apparently this is already a problem in some places – but a cross-country trip didn’t get this guy pulled over. In Schenectady it can get you arrested, but in Chicago there’s no law just yet.
California bans “driving too fast for conditions” which can cover reading and all other foolishness while driving. Law enforcement most likely has to observe the violation.
No solid cite: I’ve heard some jurisdictions have laws against installing a video screen visible to the driver, which would be easier to enforce, but what about satellite navigation systems that can also display videos?
It’s not really a new thing. Five years ago, I was in Chicago (near the Museum of Science and Industry) waiting to get onto Lakeshore Drive. The car in front of me had a small LCD panel on the dashboard. My Girlfriend at the time looked at it curiously, and I noted that there seemed to be a lot of flesh-tones on-screen. As the camera zoomed out from the close-up action, we got a better view of the scene…
I wasn’t quite mesmerized by it, but I could understand being distracted!
