My fiancee, **Shocker Khan, **and I watch it. It’s cute though I do spend most of the time watching it picking apart problems I have with the show. Overall though it’s entertaining and I do love the lead actress. I’m a big Margaret Cho fan and even though she’s underused here, she’s great.
My biggest issue w/ the show is the lead guy that was engaged to Deb. First of all, his name is Grayson. He seems straight out of a bad romance novel. Does this show have to be so obviously airing on Lifetime? They make him this perfect can-do-no-wrong character and I find that annoying.
Shocker Khan loves Jane’s wardrobe and has spent the last twelve hours trying to find out who makes the dress she wore in last night’s episode - even so far as to have found the name of the costumer for the series.
I caught about 20 minutes of it. Unless those were the 20-low point minutes of the show, I have to disagree with you about the lead’s abilities as an actress.
(Also, in spite of all of the show’s promotional materials, she’s not size 16. Not even close. I find it vaguely bothersome that a show that includes among its themes positive self image regardless of body shape flat out lies about its actress’s body shape. They could have just gone with “plus sized.”)
The writing also isn’t there yet. It could have been an interesting premise on a better network.
I think it’s a light-weight show, but my spouse and I enjoy it as mindless entertainment. We’ll probably continue watching.
I do think the lead actress does a pretty good job. I think it helps if you’ve seen the pilot, though so you can see how much Brooke Elliot is emulating Deb in Jane’s body.
